FLIPPABLE: Heather Edelson for MN-HD49A

My family loves Edina and we are deeply invested in seeing our city thrive. Our campaign is about putting people first. Politics should always have people front and center. I want to put you first and be the strong voice Edina needs at the Capitol.

My story began in a place quite different from Edina. In many ways, my childhood was the exact opposite of how our sons are growing up. However, that life experience is core to who I am and drives my passion to serve you in the Minnesota House.

I spent much of my childhood in poverty, being raised by a loving and strong-willed single mother in North Minneapolis. I attended high school in Columbia Heights and moved out on my own when I was just sixteen. I went on to become the first person in my family to graduate from college. I later completed a Master’s Degree and had a career as a outpatient mental health therapist, helping those experiencing mental illness. I could not have achieved all of this without the strong support networks in our Minnesota communities.

Growing up, my grandfather taught me that doing the right thing is not a question; it’s the only answer. My grandfather was an avid volunteer and supporter of the Shriner Hospital and was active at his local church. He instilled a passion for service in me as a child.

For many years, I served as a Guardian ad Litem for child protection cases in Hennepin County, advocating for a child’s rights in court proceedings. As difficult as my own childhood had been, my eyes were opened to the even more dire needs of many in our communities, and the importance of giving every child a chance at a bright future.

I am a mom, a mental health therapist, and an avid community leader. I am a proud coalition builder who has gotten things done for our community. It would be my privilege to serve as your advocate at the State Capitol. In the coming months, I look forward to hearing what matters to you – and I hope to have your support.
