I guess this is real. He's a good source on Ukraine:

(31,320 posts)parking lot... how did this kill 200 or 300 people?
a shrapnel bomb... cluster munition?
Also, another video shows the blast... it was quite large. Again, how did it leave such little damage?

(7,611 posts)I have seen a video of what appear to be 10 body bags.
The large casualty number at this point is just a hamas claim
Why the absence of any video that would support the claim? It's not making a lot of sense.

(9,670 posts)A mortar (or similar munition), when it hits an area -- especially an urban one -- will essentially create shrapnel of rock, building, metal, asphalt, etc. that all acts as bullets and leave everything around it shredded.
If this was a crowded area and no warning of an attack so that people could take cover, after Velshi's report, I could see how it could kill so many people.

(52,519 posts)Given the new daytime pictures, along the drone footage, that seems awfully high.
I guess we all just wait to see.

(1,847 posts)saying hundreds of refugees from other places had come to the hospital to escape bombing. There were many sleeping in the courtyard.

(7,611 posts)There was a video of about 10 body bags.
AND IT WAS A HAMAS ROCKET!!!!!
Proven beyond a reasonable doubt now

(22,048 posts)That the Hamas claim of 200, 300, 500 killed is bullshit? That number was released very quickly along with the statement the hospital was bombed. In the light of day it is clear the report of the hospital building being hit is less than accurate.
I assume the video you refer to is the one showing a large fireball. That would be the fuel of the rocket exploding. Much like Hollywood effects, it is impressive but mostly visual. It can be lethal definitely but will cause much less damage than one would expect.

(530 posts)The video of the explosion:
From the video it shows the explosion is small. The cameraman is pretty close to the impact site as you don't hear the audio lag from seeing the explosion to the sound that would say it's far away. Sounds travels at 1,100 feet per second, so cameraman was probably around 100 feet away since the blast and sound occur at the same time. The Israeli video of the damage does support that.
Also Hamas rockets contain 10 to 50lbs of explosives for a small explosion like that, with minimal damage to the vehicles and buildings. A typical Israeli bomb contains 200 to 1,000lbs of explosives which would flatten the area and leave a crater. Israel has a smaller SDB bomb now that has 50lbs of explosives. But the explosion damaged looked like it was less than 50lbs.
Also a small explosion like that wouldn't kill 500 people like Hamas claims. Maybe up to 50 people if it hit a crowd.

and if I see it I will also.
Tens of cars mercilessly savaged.

(52,519 posts)the explosion was far smaller than an Israeli airstrike, and the damage to the hospital itself certainly doesn't show widespread destruction
a HUGE problem is, all the major Western big media have run with it hard (such as Reuters, AP, WaPo, NYT, BBC, many of the UK big papers, etc etc, so now we have global freakouts and violence from the pro Palestinian sides)
what a clusterfuck

This image also has the exact same number and distribution of vehicles as the released IDF drone footage, confirming the veracity of both.

(4,002 posts)It's kind of like how Republicans act. Throw out a bunch of unprovable claims, absent any evidence at all, scream and yell and rile up your base, and reality goes out the window.

(56,924 posts)It sure looks like it was a Hamas rocket that did it.

(54,042 posts)I watched CNN and MSNBC and neither has even mentioned this evidence now that it is light outside and the images are much more accurate. As with many, many DU posts ever the years I find more accurate info here and often before the media even mentions the story.

(23,500 posts)But still infuriating.
The media has become totally irresponsible. They didnt even wait for details to emerge and instead went with whatever the terrorists told them. And a lot of damage has been done with this carelessness.
