https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/13/pete-hegseth-pentagon-lawyers-rules-of-war"The US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, is expected in the coming weeks to start a sweeping overhaul of the judge advocate generals corps as part of an effort to make the US military less restricted by the laws of armed conflict, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The changes are poised to have implications across the military, as Hegseths office considers changes to the interpretation of the US rules of engagement on the battlefield to the way that charges are brought under the military justice system.
....
And in Trumps first term, Hegseth privately and publicly as a host on Fox and Friends appealed to Trump to pardon US soldiers accused of committing war crimes, including Gallagher, who was accused of murdering a captive Islamic State fighter in Mosul.
Hegseths views as expressed in his book are shared by Parlatore, who saw the Gallagher case as an example of overzealous prosecution and suggested he could reform the Jag corps because he had experience as both a former officer and defense lawyer."... (more)

especially they want to take out those people who truly follow Christ's teachings

(13,018 posts)(AP) "Hegseth complains in his latest book that 'woke' generals and the leaders of the elite service academies have left the military dangerously weak and 'effeminate' by promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. He says rank and file soldiers are undermined by 'feckless civilian leaders and foolish brass,' adding that 'the next commander in chief will need to clean house.'"
"'Americas white sons and daughters are walking away, and who can blame them,' he writes in 'The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free.'"
"Like Trump, he espouses a traditional view of masculinity, writing that men are innately drawn to fight, compete and prove their strength...He calls the political left, 'Americas domestic enemies' and 'America-wreckers.'"
"Hegseths writing is contemptuous of the policies, laws and treaties that constrain warfighters on the battlefield, from restrictive rules of engagement to the Geneva Conventions, which he suggests are outdated against enemies who dont abide by them....He has little patience for the moral questions surrounding war. Of the Americans who dropped nuclear bombs on Japan to end World War II, he writes, 'They won. Who cares.'"

(18,014 posts)Once you decide your chosen enemies have no rights, you are under no obligation to treat them with any humanity. And of course the current Administration equates strength with cruelty, so would have no such inhibitions anyway.
It exploits the glaring weakness of human consensus: if you don't like the rules, why just change them and do as you please. It might make foreign travel a bit dicey, as theoretically one could be arrested if he visited somewhere where there was a warrant out for him, but who would want to leave the great Paradise America will become anyway?
