Donald Trump returned to bigoted form on Wednesday by lobbing yet another antisemitic attack against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish official in the United States.
Schumer is a Palestinian as far as I'm concerned, Trump said while speaking to reporters during a White House visit with Micheál Martin, the taoiseach (or prime minister) of Ireland. He's become a Palestinian. He used to be Jewish. He's not Jewish anymore. He's a Palestinian.

As is often the case, Trumps unhinged remarks were not in response to any specific question or topic but came as part of a rant against congressional Democrats. They dared to criticize the recently passed House spending bill for empowering Trump and his top benefactor Elon Musk, who has been working to attack and decimate government agencies via his so-called Department of Government Efficiency.
Wednesdays outburst was not the first time Trump has accused Schumer of no longer being Jewish. He made a post in February claiming that Palestinians were people like Schumer, and made the same argument last year while campaigning for the presidency. Trumps comments were tangentially related to Schumer and other Democrats criticizing the Israeli government for Palestinian deaths as a result of the Israel-Hamas War.

Across much of 2024, Trump repeatedly referred to the longtime senator as a Palestinian using the label as a slur even going so far as to claim publicly, and falsely, that Schumer is aligned with Hamas.
It was ugly and offensive rhetoric, even by Trump standards, and it was apparently motivated by the fact that the senator does not agree entirely with the Republican on U.S. policy toward Israel. But in 2025, the president has taken this in an even more repulsive direction. The Washington Post reported:
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office alongside Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, Trump attacked the Democrats over their response during his address to Congress on March 6 and targeted Schumer when he was asked about corporate taxes. Schumer is a Palestinian as far as Im concerned. Hes become a Palestinian. He used to be Jewish. Hes not Jewish anymore. Hes a Palestinian, Trump said.
Right off the bat, its worth noting that its takes a special kind of political talent to offend Jews and Palestinians at the same time, over the course of a few seconds, but the president apparently managed to pull it off.

......After his 2020 defeat, Trump kept this going, whining that Jewish voters dont love Israel enough, dining with prominent antisemites at Mar-a-Lago, and arguing that Jews need to get their act together and appreciate Israel before it is too late.
In late 2022, he went so far as to declare that Jewish leaders should be ashamed of themselves over their lack of loyalty.
Trump occasionally expresses bewilderment over his lack of support among Jewish voters. Why he finds this so confusing is a mystery.

(12,923 posts)Bibi gave Elon a pass on those two hard nazi salutes, I would think a surprise to many, but what I observed was Bibi explaining that kind of conduct is okay if you're a republican fighting Liberalism.
So Trump knows Bibi is in his pocket and he can say whatever the hell he wants to say, and he will.

(45 posts)Ive often wondered about how politicians treat each other when the cameras are not on them. There is the cliche of Senators yelling at each other and then playing golf and having cocktails. How do you respond to something like that when you are physically present with the person making such horrible statements? Do you say, " hey, what the frig was that you said?" do you have a laugh over differences. Are there apologies issued behind closed doors? I just don't get it how you can be civil to uncivil individuals.
