General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have thought about this vote today.. all day... and have come to the conclusion
that our people are doing the best they can .. they are making the best decisions they can with the information they have at hand. You do the best you can with the information you have.
That is why purposefully lying about something to influence others is so damned wrong. Ahem Donald Trump
So I am cutting all the Democrats in the Senate a ton of slack. They are looking at things from different angles, and have done what they think is right from the point of view they are looking at it.
Dear Democrats .. I have your backs one and all..

(65,861 posts)The PutinGOP will destroy our country if we do not do better.
This is the greatest threat to our country since WWII.
And we are losing the battle.

(23,803 posts)there will be a ton of bumps in the road as we rebuild. I feel that from my very core.

(65,861 posts)There is no data to support your gut feeling.
But it is possible that eventually the US will return to a democracy at some point.
I do not know how long it will take, and how much damage will be done.
I do know that to win the war being waged against us, we are going to
have to fight back, and fight back hard.

(4,316 posts)crowds in many cities around the country. My hope is that we can edge djt into a vicious cycle: the more that citizens feel the pinch (loss of jobs, loss of federal personnel and services, losses of benefits, rising pollution, loss of weather reports, closed national parks...) the angrier they will become. That may prompt djt to clamp down harder and public outrage to increase -- or djt will back down.

(65,861 posts)He may make a pretense of doing so perhaps.
But it won't be real.
He is a vicious, ruthless psychopath.

His history is to hit back ten times harder when he is hit.

(2,666 posts)Republicans voting against them. These are ammendments probably 90% of voters agree with.
I also suspect they played out the chess game in their heads and thought they weren't going to do better with the budget in the end.
I'm not saying I agree about the budget, but what do I know? I just don't think this is a matter of no fire in their belly but differences of opinion in strategy. i had heard that they have been working hard on everything that goes through Congress to make Republicans vote against ammendments that will be damning in an election.
This is how Lincoln won the presidency: he made Douglas say things in a Senate campaign (which Douglas won) that hurt him in the national election.
The problem here is, do we have an electorate who will pay enough attention, will fake media drown the real issues out, and will there actually be another election in 2 years? These are uncharted territories, and who knows what will turn things around.
So far they are losing in court, fired employees are returning, Elon is becoming the most hated man in the world, the stock market is tanking, and it may all come down to Amy Conan Barrett, John Roberts, and the military.
Just as Elon tries to convince us SS isn't worth saving, we have to convince our soldiers that Canada, DOGE, and Trump's illegal orders aren't worth fighting for.

One can only hope it proves the same with our representatives.

(1,673 posts)And most of the public is accutely aware of that.
I do understand there were no good options involved. I disagree on giving up what little leverage we had. I disagree that the option chosen lessons the threat. I do not believe it does at all. But at the end of the day, yes, the Democrats are not being malicious like the Republicans. They are doing what they believe is best. The entire con admin is atrocious and not normal.
