My understanding of the rational for voting against the shutdown is that

1.Trump and Musk want to shut down the government anyway; why hand it to them and just speed up what they're doing; and even more importantly,

2. Getting the government re-opened would then be in the hands of the Repubicans in Congress and the WH, meaning they could take as long as they wanted to open agencies and remake them in the process.

3. There will still be opportunity to oppose specific issues as they come up.

As much as I would love to have someone stop this administration and its DOGE posse in their tracks, via a shutdown, I see merit in this argument.

In actuality, it seems like it's hell if you do and hell if you don't....

1. Senator Markey said that Krasnov does not want a shutdown, he wants the CR.

2.House Democrats were prepared to offer a 30 day CR as a counter offer to shutting down the government but were knee capped by Schumer.

3. The CR takes away the power of the purse from Congress and gives it to Musk.
