My wife and I are quite comfortable not being millionaires. We make ourselves happy. We give a lot, volunteer a lot. Pay our bills. Have no desire to take or hurt. Billionaires could not possibly be as happy as us, they are too busy seeking the next conquest or acquisition or merger.

musk handle it better than trump, but he's managed to lose a lot of his wealth with the money-loosing twitter deal, and now the Tesla debacle.

That the last number I saw said there were something like 1100 people that have one million dollars or more. Which certainly sounds to me as if they have embraced the concept of unfettered, capitalistic greed.

According to that meme I often post, These people make up around five percent of the population.

Yet, they make up 57% of Congress. That was before the orange gibbon was reelected. The number may have risen for all I know.

We are ruled by five percent of the country. That five percent will always choose money over people. It is why they are in the five percent to begin with.

We need to stop acting like losing some billionaires and their industries is going to destroy the cosmos, when there will be five other groups ready to take their place as soon as they can take over the facilities. We need to stop letting them scare us as to how essential their presence is to this nation.

They want to leave because we tax them progressively? Fine, get out. Understand that this falls under the concept of 'desertion' as far as we are concerned. Meaning, they will be seen as non-nationals from that time forward.

They want to threaten the people with retaliatory pricing because unions are starting to spread and they want to say that now things cost more? Tell them that they can either leave or stop gouging the public over their loss of deity. Same application as above.

I would close with 'eat the rich', but I don't want that greasy, slimy shite in my gob. Just toss them on a bonfire, Tattooine-style.

I am sick of greed. I am even more sick of those who practice and defend it.

A dozen? 90%? No.

I challenge you to provide actual credible statistics. You would be able to provide them for 50% ownership and the actual number (much greater than a dozen). That statistic though is stunning enough to make the case. You won't come close to 12 people owning 90%.

The problem is bad, but making false statements about it does not help one bit.

There is another problem too. DU members who should know better just swallowed the falsehood whole as if true and regurgitated it.

$106.172 trillion.

Considering that Elon is worth ~ 1/4 trillion, and the others considerably less, it would likely be less than 1%.

Which is not to say that there isn't gross wealth inequality in the world, but as you say, exaggeration doesn't help things.

13. It should make a difference to everyone whether a statement is accurate or not

The point being made is correct (The majority of wealth in the world is controlled by too few people), but the specifics given are not just false, but outrageously so. If you don't present true facts, then you can't expect people to take you seriously when you try to explain why income or wealth inequality is a serious problem.

The 10 richest people in the world currently have total combined wealth of about 2 Trillion. The Total wealth in the world is around 450 Trillion. So the 10 richest people in the world control less than 0.5% of all wealth, showing that the idea that a dozen people control 90% of all wealth is a ridiculous assertion.
