Trump Promised Lower Food Prices On Day 1, 99 Days Later Has Delivered The OppositeTrump's been consistent in blaming Biden for E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.
But when he says that grocery prices have "come down," are the MAGAts actually believing him while paying for said groceries?
We bought groceries last Monday and paid five bucks for a dozen eggs. That implies that Trump brought the price down from $10 a dozen.
Who's believing this crap?

They'll believe ANYTHING their fuhrer tells them. Remember, IT'S A CULT.

If eggs are $10 per box you don't buy them and leave the store with $10. If they are $8 per box you buy them and leave the store with only $2. Therefore, they cost more.
Besides, you can get more breakfasts out of a dozen eggs if you make surrender monkey toast instead.

(4,335 posts)...showing key price differences from January this year until now? I expect Fox to take the lies as gospel but where are the rest of journalists? Same thing when he says China is making a deal, he is talking to Xi and they don't show the Chinese Foreign Minister saying no talks are occurring and Xi is not returning Trump's calls. Just not doing enough to call BS on the BS.

(742 posts)Frankly, using eggs as a price benchmark was never a good idea...Prices of eggs were GOING to come down when the widespread hen culling stopped, after a wild bluebird or housecat three miles away tested positive for something.
Eggs themselves are merely in a basket of items that need to be data-pointed on price increases.

(3,689 posts)In the run up to the 2024 election they both went on and on about the price of eggs. No one in the MSM felt it was worth mention the massive culling going on to deal with bird flu. Then, as soon as tRump took office, when egg prices did NOT immediately start dropping we all got educated on the reasons WHY the prices were so high, and now that prices are coming down they can credit this very natural economic phenomenon on his incredible leadership and genius.
See? Eggs are a perfect benchmark to use. If you are a lying GOP politician, or part of the complicit media, that is.

(742 posts)Regardless of who was in office, the point is that the price of eggs was artificially high due to over-emotional and needless culling of millions of healthy laying hens...Once the hens are replaced and the culling stops, the price of eggs come down.

(3,689 posts)I should use the thingy more often.
Of course the price of eggs are/were a ridiculous an arbitrary talking point for deciding who to vote for, and any responsible journalist should have pointed that out, but tRump, and the entire GOP know that they can spit out any bullshit talking point and the MSM, led by Fox will run with it and not ask questions.

(5,229 posts)a Bizarro World "reality." Where good is bad, ugliness, beautiful, truths are lies and lies are truth. Where "efficiency" is chaos, "liberty and freedom" means the opposite thereof, and "integrity"...?

(8,758 posts)I was shocked to find after going through older receipts to look for a receipt to return something that they were around $2-3 or so only last year it seems vs about $8 for the same amount now. How could I have missed that? I have had too much on my mind I guess.
Anyway, I may be having a worse reaction to them and will have to cut them out. I have tested positive for mild allergy to egg whites a few times but I never had any reaction to them. I am not sure if it is the eggs now though causing my reaction or something else. On the other hand I have tested negative for things I definitely do have a reaction to for many years now such as dust and nightshade plants and strawberries. Allergy tests are only about 70% accurate.

(23,765 posts)I live in a rural area, and we have never been the most sophisticated bunch.
But the regular folk used to have what we call "horse sense" and a healthy mistrust of "city slickers" that come around and screw things up. They may not know about quadratic equations, but they knew when a fast talker was taking them for a ride.
My town went for Trump with 75% of the vote. I talk to my neighbors and they are totally in thrall to the Trump phenomena. They tell me I am the one being duped, I am the fool.
Thus, my faith in my fellow citizens is dashed.
I feel like we are on a run-away train heading for a cliff, and the passengers are cheering and thrilled.

(54,951 posts)They think the tariff tax is not paid by them, and the effects of any economic slowdown will not be deep and it will be worth it because it won't take long for manufacturing jobs to come back to the US, despite the fact they would never want to take any of those jobs (reference the AI video of obese American men and women sewing bras in a factory).
They will buy the lies until they get smacked in the face with a 2x4 from the economy or their daycare closes because of no care-givers so they have to go back to single income.

(23,765 posts)It's more along the lines of "Trump good! Liberal bad!"
And when the economy tanks, as I am sure it will, they will blame the Democrats, the fake news, the immigrants, the minorities, the woke virus. Anything but the Trump Administration and its nonsense economic policies.

(54,951 posts)After a while they will not be able to deny that it started with tRump's inauguration and he has not fixed his mistakes. Timing might work well for a Blue Storm Surge Nov 2026.
Of course there will always be core of maga (about 10-15% of the US population, about 20% of maga) who will always blame anybody and anything but their patron saint donald.

(23,765 posts)The MAGAs are a faith-based movement, and one of the tenets of that faith is disregarding reason, logic, expertise, and facts.
In fact, as with many religious folks, the more they suffer from their faith and the further their faith pushes them, the stronger their commitment.

(54,951 posts)Rising prices won't do it, not initially.
It starts with individual maga here and there losing jobs or businesses. Whispers will be heard in maga hallways. Eventually they won't just be hearing about friends of friends but their own friends and family will lose a job or two or shifts will be cut in half or 35 year old children will move back into parent's house.
At some point, for each maga, they will suddenly realize, "wait a minute, this is kind of bad". When enough of these occur, a tipping point will be reached and there will be a rush of talk among maga "hey, is this as bad for you as it is for my family?" And maga will move against tRump.
There will always be a 10-15% of the populace who think tRump is a saint and a martyr. But at some point even a majority of maga will turn against tRump. They may not admit it so much on opinion polls because they wouldn't want to be "recorded" in any way against tRump, but their actions will reveal distrust and disgust even while being in denial.
It might be mass maga calls to brokers "Get my 401k out of the market now!" Might be staying home from voting in Nov 2026. Might be panic buying of used pickup trucks. Some will even march in protest.
Democrats must be ready and address economic concerns while maintaining maximum pressure against the abduction and disappearance of people. Especially they must address the young males who even now feel left behind by the economy despite working hard.
Nobody knows when the tipping point occurs, but Democrats, liberals, and progressives must be ready to help power a Blue Storm Surge Nov 2026.

(11,550 posts)always believe what their leaders tell them. I think some are starting to see him for what he is, a liar and fraud! It's not easy to come to terms that they fell for his con job, and some never will, but it's a start.
