(9,688 posts)Sounds like from court stuff over custody of kids, she had a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder - was an alcoholic and on many antidepressants. Im sure his cheating didnt help but he claimed she was abusive to his two young kids from his previous marriage and one of his daughters testified in court that Mary had slapped her and had hated her from when she was 7.
Who knows - sounds like lots of blame on both sides but losing custody of her kids and giving up her successful profession to have kids pushed her over her friends said. Her friends all admitted she had mental struggles her whole life.
Dont know how true this all is but lots of articles on net at time of her death.

(6,968 posts)It requires a lot of support and patience. When my wife goes through an episode, I have to wait awhile or take walk until she burns herself out of it. Then give her a big hug. She hates it when it happens and knows it will happen again.
If you add in someone who isn't supportive or worse, dismisses it...you are going to be part of the problem.

(66,955 posts)Therapists who practice Dialectic Behavior Therapy, the only known modality to statistically significantly improve persons with BPD's life circumstances, are required to attend a weekly group therapy session themselves.
You're right, either a person is part of the problem or solution.

(66,955 posts)I have neither the time nor inclination to independently verify this information, but I read it here on DU, so presumably it was from a reliable source.
I have no knowledge of her alleged dx prior to the marriage.
He is a pos. Worse than a waste of oxygen, imo.

(9,688 posts)I hate JFKs take on the genocide in Gaza ,but know many people with Borderline Personality disorder and they can really challenge you. Just reporting what Marys friends said.
Sad to say - but everyone of my borderline friends has tried to kill themselves or called me threatening too kill themselves. Here is how it sometimes goes - I spend an hr talking them down & then I call the next day to check on them & they do not acknowledge they called me the night before. Want to know why I am asking them if they are ok. Its crazy making!! BPD is rampant. Also - they love you one day and hate you the next - love you the next. Will do amazing things for you & then be mean. Hard to be in a romantic relationship with them.
Sorry but JFK is not black & white. He has been one of our top environmental lawyers cleaning up US and South American rivers and communities. I was poisoned with malathion yrs ago and was happy when his team won millions from Bayer/Monsanto for a black groundskeeper , Dewayne Johnson , (a dad with a wife & two young boys) with severe non Hodgkins lymphoma from Roundup exposure. Dewayne at the time was in the news with his body covered with open sores.

(109,301 posts)but anti-vax, anti-COVID conspiracy theory and RW attacks for years--even though he was instrumental in creating and helping to disperse a COVID-19 vaccine to the developing world using more traditional (non mRNA, thus a bit less costly) techniques. In so doing, he surely saved countless hundreds of thousands or even more lives.
RFK, Jr should join the worst of the Trump admin--including Trump himself--in a horrific hell of his own making.

(148,933 posts)There was another RFK, you may or may not remember. He was a very different person from his son with the same name. Please be sure to make it clear which RFK you're discussing.
Thanks.

(97,361 posts)Hoping it would catch on, I put this on my healthcare sign:
HEY, HEY! BOB K ! HOW MANY KIDS WILL YOU KILL TODAY?
Thought at least us old Vietnam Era Boomers would get the reference and the rhythm, but so far not yet.
Cannot stand the references to Bobby Kennedy imho Junior scarcely deserves the name.

I wish RFK Jr. would get a raging case of measles and, basically, die a slow, painful death.

(30,269 posts)The distinguished, accomplished Dr. Peter Hotez has more public health expertise in one of his fingernails than RFK jr. has acquired in his entire misspent, degenerate, scatterbrained life.
There is literally no base level for trump's appointees---every time you think they can't do anything worse, they cheerfully prove you wrong.

(4,710 posts)against installing him in an influential position spoke loudly. She's a very private person and it seemed extremely out-of-character to make such a very personal public appeal. Made me figure that RFK Jr must be seriously unfit.
