Worried, because the last time they elected a "reformist" pope, the next time, they picked a conservative one to follow him. Hopeful because Francis had appointed more than 100 of the 133 voting cardinals. It looks like we have someone that shares his concern for the poor and marginalized.

(As do a large percentage of Cardinals), but beyond that, he seems like a great choice who will likely follow in Francis's path.

Prevost has faced criticism from advocates for clergy abuse survivors regarding his handling of sexual abuse allegations during his leadership in the Augustinian order and in Peru. The advocacy group SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) has alleged that Prevost failed to act against abuse claims involving Richard McGrath, a former president of Providence Catholic High School, allowing him to remain in his position despite longstanding accusations.

Sorry you’re having a bad day. Maybe just to stretch out and relax, IF POSSIBLE, that is.
Maybe think relaxing thoughts and reminders of good things and people you care about.
Chocolate always helps me, anyway (although I realize it’s not exacta universal go-to).
Maybe think of the new Pope and how he seems to be shaping up as a TRUE believer of most of the same things and causes we embrace, too. (But I do know there are a few bumps in THAT road, too.)
Maybe think of people you love most, the pets you’ve loved, favorite teachers and inspirers in your life. Especially any and all who are still with us!
Maybe think about your favorite trip, scenery, natural-beauty areas, or some magnificent insect you noticed by accident in your own garden.
Hell, maybe even think of that time you REALLY got the better of some so & so who richly deserved it!
And yes. Worth repeating (at least for me), CHOCOLATE. With no nuts or cocoanut or extraneous stuff, unless of course you like those things.

And if possible, or if you feel like it, please let us know how you’re doing! Good OR bad. Cuz sometimes no news isn’t good news, and we’re gonna worry.

resurgence of civility in the U.S.? That's one of my hopes... Think about it--we've basically got the "good" and "evil" sides playing it out right here in the U.S. Who needs a physical war? That'll be a spiritual war to watch. It is going to be interesting to see how that Paula person and the other Charismatic/Dominionist preachers work around a popular American pope -- especially one who adheres to the better qualities of Christianity, instead of the Prosperity Gospel crap that they spew now.

And I like the name he chose as Pope. Leo (the Lion) has always been associated with social justice, with standing up for those weaker than you, and protecting those who need it the most. It's also associated in some circles with a larger-that-life personality, someone who makes things happen, instead of "letting" them happen. Yeah, I feel pretty good about this too. I've got to do some reading on the Augustinian order, tho. I'm not all familiar with it. But that's good... I like to do that kind of research!

Pope Leo XIV is a citizen of Peru ... but maybe he kept his American citizenship, I'm not sure.

Now that he's a permanent resident of Vatican City, I think he receives citizenship from there, or maybe from Italy. I'm not sure how that works. Vatican City is a separate nation, entirely within the city of Rome.

All they had to do was to congratulate him on his accession, say, “we look forward to working with him where possible,” and then shut the fuck up. They’d garner headlines galore for their mature, sensible stance, and then they could go back to destroying the United States without pissing off those few hundred million Catholics worldwide that applaud his selection.

One could be forgiven for thinking they wouldn’t be content with any Pope that states a reluctance to relaunch the Inquisition.

Ironically, I’ll bet there is one select group of American Catholics who are horrified at Leo’s selection, and every one of them is addressed as “Justice.”

Slimy Sammy is probably having conniptions as we speak, let alone what Malicious Martha is doing! Maybe she'll fly the flag of the Holy Roman Empire next?
Beer Boy is just tapping another keg, Clarence is sighing in a corner, and maybe Amy Bony Carrot is looking a little hopeful (secretly, anyway).

I'm an atheist. Never been Catholic. But I've been to more masses in my life than Protestant services. And I enjoy chatting with priests. But the church is backwards.

Silly me; no, they couldn't. They don't have any.

I have an employee who was there Jan 6 in DC and he is catholic. Cant wait to see his head spin that his Pope is anti-trump this morning. I am sure I will hear some whining, but it will be worth it....

I am unable to get rid this A-hole for his tripon Jan 6. I did review those thousands of photos to get him fired.....

Lucky his retirement is in a few months....

They are so far from the teachings of Jesus, the world needs to know that this is NOT the view of the Church.
