I've been looking at used vehicles and found one at my local dealership. I called to schedule a test drive and spoke with a salesman named Allen. So I entered the dealership and asked for him. Well there was Allen with a big ol'e Trump hat on.
So I promptly told the man introducing us that I would not do business with Allen, He asked why and I said I would not do business with anyone wearing that hat and turned to walk out.
Then I heard a voice saying "I'll help you". I turned and saw a nice young black woman and said told the man, she is my salesman.
Needless to say she was delightful and professional. I almost don't want to do business with the dealership but I do want the vehicle and I'm glad she will get the commission.
I'm wondering what Allen thought.

(50,323 posts)That is terrible business. When you go to work, you should leave your politics and religion at home. I can't imagine what on earth he was thinking.
That said, I would never do business with anyone wearing a god-awful MAGA hat. I wouldn't even talk to such a person if I didn't have to.

(12,574 posts)In any deep red state, the odds are he would attract customers........regretfully......
Cabela years ago made a derogatory statement about OBAMA in print.......I wrote the management a note that they should check my record of purchases from their company, every year.... thousands of dollars in purchases. And they could not expect that I will ever buy from them again, but will go to Dick's sporting goods instead, or order on line from the manufacturer due to their politics.
Same with the Catalog business U-line..............

(52,896 posts)Richard's father Edgar Uihlein was a prominent conservative figure in the 1960s and 1970s. He sat on the finance committee for the John Birch Society, donated to the presidential campaign of segregationist presidential candidate George Wallace, and supported Gen. Edwin Walker who led an insurrection in response to the racial integration of the University of Mississippi.[25][26]
Richard Uihlein has been a Republican donor for decades, and increased his political giving after Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.[8] He has been a longtime donor to Republicans who share his ultra-conservative views.[14] Richard is a staunch social and economic conservative,[27] with views that are anti-union,[18][19][27] anti-tax,[18][27] and pro-deregulation.[27] He has a history of supporting conservative[14] candidates, and has often supported efforts in opposition to gay and transgender rights as well as abortion.[15] Richard Uihlein has been described as a person who "shuns the spotlight";[19] he rarely gives interviews.[18]

(869 posts)Many years ago (like the late 1970's) my mother took a sales job after divorcing my dad. She worked hard and won the company's Rookie of the Year award. At the award conference, the announcer asked before hand if he should announce her as a "saleswoman". They had never had a woman win apparently. She said "hell no". She competed against all of these men and beat all of them and therefore she was a "salesman".
My mom was a pistol.

I was never much of a poster at places like this. I guess I still dont post much. We had our thing working. And now I have other things.

(5,282 posts)I have gone into shops, seen trump signs on the wall and turned around and left. When I had my own shop I never wore anything or displayed anything political. Likewise I always told my customers "Have a great holiday" unless I knew them well enough to know where they worshipped. Then I would say the appropriate holiday.

(13,374 posts)I don't mind doing business with those I disagree with politically but as a practical matter I don't trust people who think lying's okay. That's what's special about that crowd -- they embrace obvious, overt, in-your-face dishonesty, so they are more likely to be dishonest themselves. And that's bad for business.

(19,967 posts)They look t your age, race, and even how you dress when you get out of the car and send the salesperson who suits you best out to greet you.
A young lady may get a father figure while an older man could get a conservative while a minority will get the "brother".
A young white man could see a younger person and couples may get a woman or a handsome gentleman because they know the wife has final say.
Other dealerships may only have Herb Tarlock with a white belt and leisure suit.

(11,705 posts)Asked to meet the GM and then tell him /her that I would expect a dealership to NOT allow any politics to be displayed by their sales staff. That it is very unprofessional and then I would turn around and walk out. There are way too many other dealerships and car choices to choose from.
