How did little known Zohran Kwame Mamdani beat Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary? Here’s how. This was after the presidential election.Watch the tape:

And…..

Mamdani won the youth vote. They powered him to victory. But he also won with those who want to make NYC affordable.

Mike Madrid/X via Threadreader:

One of the interesting things to look for is how working class Black and Brown residents voted. If these voters break left after moving towards Trump there’s a lot of water thrown on the ‘racial realignment’ narrative.

These voters are becoming more populist NOT more conservative
Voters are absolutely sick and tired of establishment politics. It’s not ideological and that’s what the parties, pollsters and politicians are missing.

The consulting class keeps trying to explain this phenomenon in their own partisan box & they keep missing it.

That needs to be incorporated into a rallying cry for the dems.

When are they going to hire a GD marketing company? At the very least, pay someone to read DU.

The number of door knocking volunteers Mamdani had.
That's how you do it.
He took the very strategy AOC used against Crowley to get elected. That, combined with policies which center the working class & poor propelled him to victory.

That’s a powerful message that resonates across every socioeconomic demographic.

And he did it without shitting on trans kids or immigrants.

There’s big lessons here for Dems in 2026

An energetic (and charismatic) candidate went out there and actually, you know, talked to people. And he found out that it's very difficult to live with the nonstop increases in costs of living.

Who could have foreseen this would resonate?

Everyone. It was everyone. How many years have we been having this discussion?

By the time the arthritic usual powers saw what was happening, it was too late to pivot. Their sclerotic nature disallowed it.

And let me just say this. A man who resigned for sexual harassment being pushed at the last minute by Bill Clinton was a look and a half. Where in the 1990s did these two men think they were still living?

Cuomo just did local news shows and tried to win based on name recognition and high profile endorsements. Mamdami held numerous events all over the city where he met and talked to voters.

I don't usually watch Colbert but I do appreciate that he gives his guests the reins and allows them speak at length. I hope Lander and Mamdani are the future of politics.

His father is a brilliant academic with a fascinating history. Worth reading

I am hugely impressed. His ability to communicate ideas persuasively reminds me a lot of Pete Buttigieg.
