(28,890 posts)Time mattered.
The solution lies with the people, no one else is going to save us. The people were ready to fight but got no marching orders.
OK, for the 96th time; Dems should have held town halls based on specific issues, held them in blue, red, and purple districts. Should have put faces on the issues. The moderator (hopefully a Democratic Rep) should have asked invited unwashed guests about what Krasnov's Big Ugly Death Bill would do to them, how it would affect them. The template was out there, do town halls like the MSNBC town hall where fired government workers told their stories about what their jobs were all about.
Having a rally is fine, but putting real faces to the issues would have been better. Democrats can't compete with the Magat MSM echo chamber, so they needed to do these specific town halls where local News outlets, yes even Fox local News outlets would have covered them, and Democratic Congressional leadership should have organized that. That never happened so there wasn't enough blowback from the people to stop the passage of the Big Ugly death Bill.

(8,356 posts)a bubble.
None of this really does anything to stop him. Trump and the GOP were determined to pass this bill, come hell or highwater. I'm sure the calls they got about the big ugly bill were nonstop and very strongly against it. It did nothing.

(73 posts)....power as they do now, when they are out of power!
I have now thoroughly disabused myself of the following notions:
1) That we are smarter than them, and that our lawyers are smarter
2) That our creatives are superior
3) That our technologists are superior
4) That our intelligence & strategists are superior
5) That our policy writers are superior
What a fxxking joke!
For a bunch of dumb, drug addicted, pedo, godless, liars, and losers they certainly are kicking our asses!

(8,356 posts)Unfortunately, through a lot of lying and probably illegal activity, they won a trifecta and now are totally abusing their power in the most disgusting way. I don't call that winning. They are either going to wreck the country or wreck their party and I hope it's the latter.

(377 posts)Have been waiting for them to do something like back in 2015 when it was 100% obvious that trump and the russians were in cahoots, Obama should have done more than kick them out of the country. Im talking about when it was obvious they were burning documents the days before they were made to leave. He would have had every right to come after them with the full strength of the law. He did have them kicked out of the country afterall. They should have been arrested. It was obvious at that point dems didnt see the danger of the insipidous brainwashing that was taking place.

(28,890 posts)that Democrats are following Chuck Schumer's strategy to let Krasnov burn it all down, throw a boat load of money at the next election, and win back Congress.
Other people and organizations will fight Krasnov in the meantime: The ACLU, Marc Elias group, Southern Poverty law center, Indivisible.
The newly elected head of the Democratic Oversight Committee, Garcia, has publicly stated that he plans to fight. (no link) We shall see.

(3,290 posts)who still don't know what is going on. Trump being 15 points underwater isn't enough. The authorities being told to carry out said orders need to be disgusted and ashamed. The people enjoying the deportations need to become a small fringe group, not nearly half the country.
The evil people need footsoldiers. I don't believe we have enough evil people in the country to carry this out. We do have people who feel scared and powerless who might follow orders. How do we make them fear the people more than they fear Trump?

(3,290 posts)But I fear you wouldn't have gotten the necessary people to come around before they start seeing damage done in their lives. I wish there was a way to avoid the pain, but I think we are dealing with a population that doesn't pay attention until they have to. Or if they do, they will believe Trump's promise for how it will all turn out.
So I think you idea is still a good one--not soon enough to stop the terrible bill, but soon enough to help people connect the dots. if Trump convinces them all their suffering is caused by immigrants and Democrats, they get away with everything. If they understand the problems are a direct result of Trump policy then we have a growing movement. We don't need everybody--but we need a lot more people than we have now.

(23,919 posts)Honestly. I know the idea has been dismissed here.
But honestly. The red states don't deserve the blue states.**

What I mean is that the blue states did not sign up for an Article II executive branch taking over Article I legislative powers by a complicit Republican Congress or marching roughshod over Article III federal courts by an also-complicit Supreme Court that articulated immunity to the executive.
The blue states also did not join the Union for rule by decree, either by executive orders or some late-night poop Truth. They additionally are against right-wing sophistry about who is or who is not a birthright citizen according to the Fourteenth Amendment, a secret police seizing people just trying to go to work or church, the betrayal of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters, and the reckless and utter destruction of the finest pillars of government and academia.
The blue states want to save all that is good about the rule of law, institutional knowledge, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They are trying to preserve the Union. Opposing them are Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican toadies, who have walked away from no, attacked everything good that is the American way of life. They are the secessionists.
Flip the script and you will find your moral cause.

(3,290 posts)probably the police, the vigilantes with guns.
So how do we enforce any of this?
If it comes to force, we lose.
Trump would literally drop nukes if there was some scenario in which we were winning a war.
So somehow blue states have to convince red states. Or enough people in them. Thats the only way.

(4,093 posts)Seeing if this outside-the-box point of view gains traction with others, up to and including blue state governors, I suppose comes next.
Also, the vigilantes, the foot-soldiers of the secessionist far right, are not invincible. I don't care how large their personal arsenals are, they can, at best, fire only two guns at a time and probably not very well. Plus, they have to go to the store and fill up their Ford Gargantua 350s, so someone can reach out and touch them if it has to come to that. They probably have the tactical advantage in the backwoods; on the streets, not so much. And that's all I'm going to say so as to not attract Agent Mike or have a post hidden.
