...the proof is in the propaganda and lies that the right wing has employed in their political efforts to remove what they (still) claim without any proof at all are Democrats who illegally vote in our elections.
Conservative complaints have been that undocumented migrants tend to settle in Democratically controlled cities that have adopted sanctuary policies that protect them from the threat of deportation, so any additional seats advantaged by census counts are likely to benefit the Democrats.
Funny though, how thousands of migrants have been literally put on buses by republicans from republican-led states and sent to Democratic-run areas in an effort to own the libs.
It's political, less than it's ideological, and it's essentially a threat waged by the Trump regime against mostly Democratic-majority, or Democratic-led states and cities, like in California, or like a report this week that says Trump is looking at a military-based takeover of the District of Columbia on the same phony pretext of some 'emergency' that none of the elected officials of the District have declared or agreed to.
Thing is, this campaign against immigrants has always been about an idiocratic lure for poor white Americans to vote republican on the pretext that they will rid these sorry rubes of the source of all of their problems.
Thing is, it's still mostly comfortable for many Americans to suppose they're safe from a government which, nonetheless, arbitrarily seizes people off of the streets, from workplaces, from school, from churches, from hospitals, and even outside of scheduled hearings where judges confirm they are complying with the terms of their agreements to remain in the country.
That's the only thing that's preventing the same panic and anguish that undocumented migrants and naturalized citizens alike are experiencing. Once ICE gets their claws into someone and jails them, it's almost a certainty that they'll find some reason to keep them in custody until they can eventually deport them to wherever they please.
Imagine the terror of being uprooted from the life that was promised to you here. Put yourself in the place of these people who came to this country to work or live in safety, many now profiled and targeted because of the color of their skin or their assumed Mexican or Latin American nationality.
Some seized are just outright American citizens. Others were brought here by their parents as children and not only have been raised here, but have spent their money here and paid taxes without any chance of the benefits that other children raised here enjoy.
There will definitely be lawsuits seeking to prevent this from happening, but the intention in the actions from this administration is to intimidate as many people who would vote against them from the polls, and in the absence of vigorous rulings and enforcement against these unconstitutional acts there will be countless American citizens frightened away from the polls.
This fascist regime must be stopped and disbanded, and they're doing everything they can to place barricades and obstacles in Americans' path to the polls, our vote the most vital instrument of our democracy.

(1,161 posts)So my brown brethren can vote and vote twice via mail. Just like all of those old white Republican voters in Florida and Texas have done. Yes, Mexicans risk their lives to travel to America, work under horrible conditions for whatever low wages they can get just so they can risk getting sent back after doing prison time for illegally voting.
It doesn't make sense, does it. But, then again, we're talking about the Republican party, the party that never saw a crazy conspiracy theory they couldn't embrace. It's no different than a dog barking incessantly at his reflection.
