MAGA Tried To Kill Superman For Being Too Woke And Failed

It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s A Box Office Hit: ‘Superman’ Leaps Higher To $125M Opening – Monday AM Update

MONDAY UPDATE: Warner Bros’ and DC Studios‘ Superman is higher with a $125M opening. This is where rivals saw it on the high yesterday AM; the James Gunn movie’s Sunday being robust with $31.3M, -17%. Warners’ revised Friday and Saturday for the pic is $56.1M and $37.6M. Not even kryptonite will ease Superman’s grip on his second weekend, which should be around -50% with around $62.5M. How’s that? Matt Reeves’ The Batman eased -50% in its second weekend while the last two Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 respectively declined -56% and -48%. You’ll remember how much many marveled about the hold on the third GOTG

If you read some of the early superman comics, superman has always been "woke". mwmisses4289 Jul 15 #8

An honorable man.

Not surprised the republicons are afraid of him,
and so spew their usual fountain of hate.

I remember the occasional sermonette on kindness and fair play to those who were “different” in some way.

Comics with war stories reliably had episodes where half a dozen men from all over the US ended up in a foxhole together and had to resolve their own prejudices in order to fight Hitler.

Of course Superman was woke. Why the hell else would he be fighting for truth, justice, and the American Way.

It wasn’t until my own kids were grown that I read a book or two on who was creating comics in those days, and got why such themes were top of mind in that part of the creative world.

The two characters in all comics whose origin stories do NOT need to be recorded to film are Superman and Batman. People who've never cracked the cover of a comic book know Superman's origins. If they would have left out the origin story they could have used the entire two hours to let Superman solve the problem the movie is about. I definitely plan to see the film, probably Thursday - I don't have to be at work until 10 pm then so I have time - but how much better could the movie be without going over what we already know?
