Supposedly, about 15% of PBS's funding is from feds. Hopefully, they'll replace most of that IF cuts go through. Silent Type Jul 15 #5

...but not too confident. I can see them possibly breaking out PBS funding from NPR, and continuing some funding of PBS while cutting out NPR completely.

to see a serious uptick to their donations. Probably more than they got from the Government.

...how we really need to start donating to our local PBS station (WETA), as we watch a lot of their content, especially since they'll probably lose funding.

I went up to their site to take a look at their federal non-profit return because I was curious about how much they get from the government. Shows ~$2.7 million, which is ~2% of their budget, and I'm thinking that a lot of people in this area that don't currently donate will make that up.

What surprised me though was that the CEO of the station makes over $650,000, which seems like a lot to me for a non-profit, especially since she's a Rockefeller.

But perhaps that name helps bring in donations, so it may be a wash.

My station went pretty much all NPR/APR/NPR/etc. feeds and at the same time more than doubled their semiannual "ask" for contributions, cranked up their foundation support and because the counterbalance, in part, to RW talk radio. That was their idea.

Our donations will go to our local PBS station (WETA), as they not only pay fees to PBS for content, but they also create a great deal of content (think News Hour) that is then used by other PBS stations.

I think WETA will be fine, but I don't know what it will be like for smaller stations.

They have the ability to make $ and loyal supporters will donate.

They should be fine.

anything wrong with a country having a public broadcasting channel, especially one with such quality content.
There are somethings a prosperous and enlightened people should value, and providing PBS free of charge, was a symbol of that to me.

I doubt it will. The GOP has been gunning for it for so long and they finally feel they have the green light to be as Draconian as they want.

-- particularly the program director of Dallas affiliate KERA -- Monty Python's Flying Circus might never have been shown in the U.S.

I owe my life to that man and to PBS.
