Vulnerable Michigan incumbents in Congress post strong quarterly fundraising hauls
Washington ― Michigan's most targeted incumbents in the U.S. House posted some of the delegation's largest fundraising hauls Tuesday both freshman lawmakers in their first six months on the job.
Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett of Charlotte, who flipped a mid-Michigan seat from Democratic control last fall, reported a haul of just over $1 million and cash reserves of nearly $1.5 million, according to his fundraising report for the second quarter.
Three high-profile Democrats are vying to take on Barrett next year. Among them is former Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, whose campaign reported raising about $503,000 in two weeks ― the highest total among first-time candidates running in districts targeted by national Democrats, according to a tally by the National Journal. Brink's fundraising includes $20,000 in personal loans to her campaign.
Democratic Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet of Bay City, who represents a Trump-won district in the Tri-Cities region, raised nearly $800,300 and finished with $1.26 million cash on hand as of June 30. Her first GOP challenger, Amir Hassan of Flint, launched his campaign Monday and hasn't reported any fundraising yet.
