Now they are bullying unwed mothers:

A Tennessee woman is having to travel to Virginia for prenatal care because the DR in her area has denied her care on the grounds that she's an unwed mother.

Tennessee has passed a law to allow DRs to discriminate against anyone so long as DRs claim it's about "religious beliefs."

No concern for the health of the baby, give that Doctor a front row seat at mass. Identify the unwed father and buy him a beer. The gop a cancer cheered on by those who get tax exemptions but don’t abide by those caveats. It must be a joy for them living in the land of the free.

...(Catholicism) years ago. I knew a woman who worked in hospital chaplaincy; her POS husband left her and their child like the deadbeat he was--and for that, she was attacked by "someone at the Chancery" for being "a single mom".

She never did say who it was at the Chancery who trash-talked her, but I got the strong impression it was a clergyman.

A couple of years later, I saw the same crappy treatment of women once again when an employee of my parish brought a sexual harassment lawsuit against a deacon. He was demoted but remained employed in the Church. A gag order was imposed on everyone involved. The woman involved got a pittance in restitution and lost her job. The whole miserable experience tore apart a campus ministry (this was a large Midwestern university).

I don't know why it took another decade or so, but I eventually "deconstructed", as the kids call it.

A bible story about how St Joseph thought about denying Mary's pregnancy with Jesus and rejecting her as they were not yet married and hadn't yet laid with each other.. My biblical knowledge isn't great, but was told that in Catholic school. So there's that, hypocrite Christians!

Roe wasn't about abortion; it was about women having equality. Now that it is gone, these crazies will use anything to make women less.

I was arguing with someone about a week ago. That person is a female Trumper, and she uses a hyphenated last name. She is Hispanic. Her husband is White. So her name is written as First Name/Hispanic Surname-Obviously White Surname.

I asked her how she could possibly support Trump and she gave me the usual crap. I told her that she'd better be careful because these idiots do not want mixed marriages of ANY kind, and that will eventually be on their agenda - just like going after women who have dared to have sex. And it WILL come to that eventually.

It's not about saving the baby - even in this case of prenatal care. It's about controlling the woman and punishing her for not being chaste (as they see it).

There will be more of this. The Handmaid's Tale is not fiction any more.

There are plenty of women who choose to hyphenate their own surname with the surname of their spouse. There's nothing right or wrong about that; it's just a choice.

In this case, the name delineated the Hispanic name versus the (probably German ancestry) White name, making it obvious that this woman had chosen to use her husband's last name AND that she (herself) was Hispanic.

I live in Texas, and there is most assuredly and definitely a group of Christian White Nationalists who DO NOT want mixed marriages of any kind. Reminiscent of the 1950's and beyond. So this woman (a Trumper) is supporting the MAGA movement, and that movement is ultimately going to decry mixed marriages and shame her for marrying someone outside of her "category". My point was that she is a COMPLETE AND UTTER FOOL for not realizing this.

The idea that unmarried mothers are being discriminated against is just another rung of the ladder that we are falling down. Public objections to mixed marriages won't be far behind in my opinion. Loss of financial independence for women is a possibility, too.

All Project 2025. Can't happen? Yeah, we are watching it happen right now.

How long before the (Not Very) Supreme Court overturns Loving v. Virginia? Commenting after Rowe v. Wade was overturned, Loving was one of the cases that Justice Thomas said should be "revisited" to determine if it was "wrongly decided."

Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1 (1967), was a landmark civil rights decision of the U.S. Supreme Court that ruled that the laws banning interracial marriage violate the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

In NE Tennessee. Been there several times. There's a church on every corner and when you are introduced to someone, one of the first questions they ask is "Where do you go to church?"

The best time to shop for liquor in that area is on Wednesday night when the liquor stores are not crowded -- that's the night when all the churches have mid-week potluck supper, choir practice, and "prayer meeting" .

and lodge a formal coimplaint against that dickhead doctor. She could also tattle to the right to life nutcases that her "unborn child" was being threatened by neglect due to refusal of care.

Yes, there is a lot of real stink that could be generated over this.

However, bullying unwed mothers is what these assholes are all about, shaming and bullying women because women can do something they will never be capable of. It's been like that for thousands of years.
