We just finished watching Mr Smith Goes to Washington. A short about DC followed

I'm guessing the short was from just before WWII. The tone was patriotic without being overly schmaltzy. They showed the famous buildings of government and of DC, the Capitol City. It made our chests feel swelled a bit. Honestly.

As Sparkly and I were watching we both felt how crummy a country we've become.

To be sure there was much wrong just below the surface (poverty, racism, sexism, etc.) but the veneer was that of a country of which to be proud.

How awful that we have become a sewer. The ills of that era have become open, public, accepted, mainstream.

Can we ever get past where we are?

The movie was feel-good. Watching the after-movie short, started off feel-good but caused us to be sad.
