Coldplay Concert Scandal Was the Funniest Thing to Happen This Week

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lifestyle/lifestyle-news/coldplay-concert-affair-scandal-tiktok-video-couple-kisscam-1236319986/

Turns out all the world needed to heal the cultural divide — temporarily, at least — was a Coldplay concert in Boston, a jumbotron and an embarrassing moment for a tech CEO and his top human resources executive.

Memes, jokes and movie and TV clips ranging from The Office, The Sopranos and Succession to Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups are being deployed from all corners of the internet to poke fun at a scandal involving Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the company’s chief people officer, Kristin Cabot. The pair got caught in a tight embrace by a jumbotron during a kiss-cam segment at Coldplay’s concert earlier this week, and after seeing their image beamed out to the sold-out crowd of 65,000, they ducked for cover

Coldplay hasn’t made a single in 20 years, but they made two new singles tonight

Romance, scandal, fake statements, misidentification of a friend/coworker that still hasn’t been corrected, memes,

It’s crazy how these people went from basically unknown to very famous in hours. This is especially true for the wife of the CEO who had YouTube videos with her name saying “power move” in less than 24 hours.

It’s unfortunate but very entertaining.

This is a modern day metaphor for the “no real ules for the wealthy at play” versus the rest of us - our turn to laugh.

But the CEO angle definitely added fuel. And the head of HR?

This is a company that didn't have a Wikipedia entry until 2 days ago (and is now being discussed for deletion, on the grounds that "CEO had an affair with head of HR" is not a true indication of importance). It has around 350 employees. So that might be notable in a small town, but it's not like this is something important like, say, a hospital. I'm not sure a CEO of a 350-employee company is actually a "billionaire". And "we saw our work colleagues conducting their affair" isn't that amazing in a 350-member workplace.

People say "but it happened at a Coldplay concert". Yeah, but they're a bit of a "legacy" act these days. "Mylo Xyloto" is their last album of which I've definitely heard, and that came out in 2011 (maybe 2015's "A Head Full of Dreams??).

I think this shows that people are desperate for a bit of old-fashioned gossip, below the level where PR teams can fashion it, and where there are no consequences for the readers.

My initial thought was that they were human beings and deserved a little privacy and compassion, but they are a billionaire and a hypocritical HR director. Let'm rip.

I wouldn't even call it misinformation. It's just people saying things.

The HR lady is currently married: Apparently untrue. She's divorced
The second woman in the video worked at the company: Company denies it
CEO issued a statement: False. It was fabricated

And there's more

Statler & Waldorf may be taking it a little too seriously, but over here in the cheap seats, we probably laughed at it more than we should have.
