Anti-immigration policies advocated for by Colorado Rep. Gabe Evans would have resulted in the deportation of his own grandfather, who also may not have gotten into the U.S. legally.
The rising MAGA star and anti-immigration advocate has repeatedly said that his Mexican grandfather came to the U.S. the right way, implying that he arrived legally, but an investigation by Colorado Newsline claims that immigration documents show that isnt strictly true.
Paperwork seen by Colorado Newsline shows that Evans grandfather, Cuauhtemoc Chavez, arrived in the U.S. illegally in 1929 with his mother and siblings and lived there for 12 years before being arrested and subject to deportation proceedings.
Two of Chavezs sisters were arrested at the same time, according to documents which list their reason for entering the country on December 9, 1929, as to live, illegal entry.

I can't believe we're doing this again. This country-- we pretend we're about freedom, but we keep reverting to the totalitarianism that built the country on slavery and killing natives for their land.

(37,113 posts)In the weeks preceding publication of this story, Evans appeared to acknowledge or accept the assertion that his grandfather had entered the country unlawfully in at least two interviews. His office could not point to any examples of similar disclosures during the 2024 election or before. Delanie Bomar, his spokesperson, first claimed that Evans had been very consistent and clear about his familys story, but subsequently said his past comments may have been confusing.
In Hispanic culture, immigrating the right way generally means working hard, contributing to their community, and not causing problems not necessarily that something is 100% perfectly legal, Bomar wrote in an email.

This article and the thread really highlight the problem with our jurisprudence being overtaken by Subjectivity, putting a thumb on the scales benefitting the powerful. "Rules for Thee... Not for Me!"
I guess it's on us. We were mean to him. No Fair. (Apparently this is because of Liberals and their "Victim Culture".)
