Ontario Surgery Center staff arrested on federal charges

Two staff members from the Ontario Advanced Surgery Center in California are facing federal charges after allegedly interfering with an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest. The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 8) when Denis Guillen-Solis, a Honduran national, fled into the clinic to evade law enforcement during a targeted ICE operation.

The U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Bill Essayli, stated that the clinic staff attempted to block ICE agents from apprehending Guillen-Solis by allegedly assaulting the officers. The criminal complaint accuses Jose De Jesus Ortega and Danielle Nadine Davila of "forcibly assaulting, impeding, and interfering with a federal officer." Ortega has been arrested, while Davila remains at large.

The Department of Homeland Security reported that the clinic staff locked doors, blocka law enforcement vehicles, and called the police, claiming a "kidnapping" was in progress. Javier Hernandez, executive director of the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, confirmed that Guillen-Solis was eventually arrested.

California Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez criticized the ICE operation, describing it as "devastating" for the community. She emphasized the need for accountability and integrity in law enforcement actions.

It didn’t specify if it was of the misdemeanor or felony variety but most likely it’s misdemeanor, maximum sentence could be up to a year.

...for the rest of their lives. I'm betting the charges will be dropped. The admin and ICE pigs use the threat of arrest to intimidate good people, but they don't want to go before a judge with all the attendant publicity and judicial resistance to fascism. And I doubt the feds can find juries who will convict peaceful protesters.

…it not going to trial, but they weren’t peaceful protesters.

Like it or not, it is against the law to impede ICE agents who are trying to detain someone.

The assault charges are transparently bogus. No jury will ever convict nurses for trying to prevent violent masked individuals from accessing hospitals. Those nurses are heros.

But impeding the arrests is a crime, and the video clearly show they were doing that.

Physically pulling on and wedging yourself in between a suspect and an officer trying to make a lawful arrest is not peacefully protesting. If it was an unlawful arrest it could help their case but that doesn’t appear so.

That federal prosecutors requested. They’re not dropping the charges. With the video evidence against them it’s also very unlikely the judge they get for trial will dismiss the charges.
