They stole girls... females who were not yet of an age to be properly called women. Of course, neither is legal or moral. But society differentiates between the two, as one being more helpless than the other.

To make it less shameful, the emphasis here is on women... those supposedly with more agency than mere girls.

I hate the way language is used against us.

though one might be inclined to wonder why they were there in the first place,

IF the story has any basis in truth.
