Prison rape is not a joke.

As horrible as what this man did may be, rejoicing that he'll be subjected to torture, rape and an early death contributes nothing good to making America a place that does not tolerate social Darwinism, eye-for-eye retribution, and cruelty in place of an equitable rule of law.

The child he victimized will not be un-victimized, nor will teaching her that it's okay to rejoice in a horrible revenge for her injuries help her overcome the trauma, learn to trust humankind again, and seek a future where she will experience kindness because she can value and dispense it herself. Even in the face of the horrors she survived.

The 11-year-old's grandmother denied this claim, telling the outlet that the family "did not know this was happening."

"They've made my daughter and son-in-law a monster," she continued. "They are not. They love these children... We have animals, and so sometimes there's trash on the floor because the dogs get into the trash. It gets cleaned up. Right now, it's probably a mess because the animals are in there. We try to let them out, but they try to keep it clean."

The grandmother also claimed that the child told her who the father of the child may have been.

"She keeps telling us that it was a little 12-year-old that I used to babysit," she said. "She keeps telling everybody that it was him. They got curious, that's all I know."

One of my cousins did a Woody Allen, divorced the mom and ran away with the teenaged daughter, got married in Mexico. I've always wondered how long it lasted, but no one in the family has been in contact with him for the past fiftyish years. He's got no online presence, so my worst self imagines he got plugged by an irate Mexican dad for messing around with the wrong little girl down there.

Guys like this look completely normal. You can know them for years--even grow up with them--and never spot them until it's too late.

That poor child. I hope she gets the help she needs and will be taken somewhere safe, with people who will truly love her and care for her, never to see that disgusting couple again.

So, what happens to the baby? The 11-year old certainly cannot care for it. Will the step-father get parental rights now? I mean, it goes without saying that he shouldn't, but in this fucked up world, who the heck knows.
