Am I wrong in my understanding that like 60% of Americans can no longer access the COVID vaccine? That's insanity. I don't even know how to process that. That's literally a death sentence or in the case of long COVID a lifetime of suffering.
I just don't know how much more our society is willing to take of this insanity.

Which, if insurance companies choose not to cover the shots, means that many people will be excluded, but it's not ban on the shot except for high-risk people.

(376 posts)has proven, that an ADDITIONAL 500,000 U.S. Citizens were killed by Trump and the Republican's Actions/In-actions, and stalling during the Covid Pandemic........
I guess the Republicans, (RFK Jr. and Trump specifically) are not though with "culling" the herd, by eliminating the vaccinating of the U.S. Population.......Also, infants and children not being vaccinated for childhood diseases.........
In every way possible, the Republicans are hell bent on taking us back 100+ years, to the days of the GILDED AGE, with ROBBER BARRONS.........
It doesn't take a genius to realize that the upcoming Depression, will make the "Great Depression", a hundred years ago, look like a slight recession......and we don't have an FDR to pull the nation out of it...........

I have made the same analogy with ransomware patches..data mining should just be banned. I dont mean the old model of the web but this emerging newer web rife with ai, predatory data miners from the sleazy and corrupt to outright dark web etc

(2,776 posts)... but there is little we can do when our leaders abide by rules that Trump & Company ignore, and gleefully trample into a puddle of blood and bone. What we can do is target Republicans with the cold, hard facts of what they'll face when this house of cards collapses around them, and they're left holding the bag. Let there be NO doubt that said collapse is will happen; it's as certain as the Sun setting in the west. And what they are enabling is flat-out treason, the punishment for which has a certain finality to it. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for far less than what Trump has already done.
Even the dumbest of them has to know, just from the outcries at their town halls, that they're in real trouble. If they want to come away from this monumental clusterfuck in one piece, it's time for them to do what's right for the country, NOT the treacherous weasels at the Heritage Foundation.
There can be no doubt that Musk and others found a way to alter election results in critical swing states that Harris WAS way ahead in. There IS proof, and they can provide it. It's that, or die in prison, because this shit IS going to end, one way or another. Make it that stark a choice.
Bloodshed is almost inevitable at this point. Almost. The GOP is dead, but there must be a few adherents to that diseased political philosophy that have some sense of self-preservation.
Sorry, Michelle, but this "When they go low, we go high" starry-eyed Pollyanna viewpoint is not going to work. We take it to 'em in the trenches with zero mercy. You can damn sure betcha they wouldn't show you any.
Is my raging contempt for these people starting to show? Good.

(25,393 posts)If it's not officially recommended, it's probably not going to be covered. It would be nice if the insurance companies simply said," We believe in the concept of herd immunity, and therefore will pay for the Covid vaccine for any of our insureds who want it," but that's an awfully big thing to hope for from such soulless individuals.

(169,179 posts)Updated coronavirus vaccines may not be available until mid-September, and people who are not considered high risk may not be able to access them.
Covid is rising. New vaccines may not be ready until mid-September. Article fails to mention that CDC recommendations for staying home when infected are too short or other means of protection including masks, air filtration and improved ventilation.

But this uptick arrives with an added layer of uncertainty because its unclear when and which Americans can receive updated vaccines this fall.....
The federal committee that would recommend the updated coronavirus vaccine is not expected to meet until at least mid-September, according to industry employees and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share sensitive information. By that point, the summer covid wave could be over, but Americans could still get a boost of immunity ahead of an expected winter wave......
For the coming fall season, the FDA has not yet approved an updated coronavirus vaccine. In recent years, the agency has typically signed off on an updated version by late August or early September in order for pharmacies and doctors offices to place orders.
But the agency is expected to narrow its approval for the vaccine to those 65 and older, as well as others considered at high risk for severe disease. The new approach marks a significant shift from past years when the shots have been broadly available, including to children and generally healthy adults.
I am recovering from COVID right now (finished my Paxlovid a week ago) and so this is great time for me but is horrible for others. I may not be due for another vaccination until November

(11,729 posts)Basically, if you're over 65 or meet a few other criteria, it will be available at a pharmacy.
Everyone else will have to book a doctor's appointment.

(1,300 posts)When I went to cancel the appointment, CVS lists the 2005-2006 approved Moderna as the one being cancelled even though the Moderna search did not show CVS in my list. I wonder if they stripped CVS out of their lists entirely after this morning's news. They probably have pharmacies in those 16 non-approved states that had already ordered the vaccine and their software wasn't easy to adapt to a maybe situation so they may have deleted CVS entirely rather than risk misleading people. But wouldn't all pharmacies in those 16 states be effected whether they announced it or not?
Which vaccine(s) would you like to cancel?

(11,077 posts)So the CDC is trying to get private medical information on Americans? That's what I see. So my choices are I could risk dying or long COVID or tell a hostile government details of my personal medical history (that they would never use against me in another way) to get access to the vaccine?
Iris
(16,597 posts)She said she can write a letter for wherever I get my shots - which is CVS. Some states (including mine) prohibit pharmacists from providing vaccines that are not approved by CDC. In this case, the letter would reflect that my Dr recommends it. Not sure that i do would actually make it to CDC
She said they can't give them at the practice because they don't have enough people who want them and the doses have a short shelf life.

(2,231 posts)As I wrote earlier, I made an appt to get the COVID and flu shots today at CVS. I'm 65 and have Medicare, and I contacted Medicare ahead of time and verified that they would pay.
Got there today and the CVS pharmacist said Medicare hasn't decided if they'll pay, even for people who are 65 or older. CVS said I could go back and get reimbursed after Medicare makes its decision. I'll have to go back in person, so I should've just bailed and waited til everything's official. But I'd already been waiting for almost an hour, so I just bit the bullet and paid. $224.99.
I'm in California.
