Loved ones shocked, worried after beloved Utah violinist detained by ICEhttps://www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/utah-violinist-detained-by-ice-loved-ones-work-to-bring-him-home
SALT LAKE CITY Friends and family are reacting after Utah violinist John Shin was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Monday.
Shock and at the same time, not surprising, said family friend Gabriel Gordon. "This is the direction that our country has been headed in.
His wife, DaNae, released the following message on social media:
"On Monday, at 2:30pm I got a call from John-- "Honey, I don't have much time. I've been arrested by ICE and they are sending me to a detainment center. I love you and the kids, I will be okay, please call our attorney" and then he was rushed off the phone. I have no more details, no more information than those short 30 seconds."
We have not heard a single word from him since that phone call, Gordon said.
----
Gordon said Shin came to Utah from South Korea when he was 10 years old and has been working his way through the legal system on different visas ever since.
John was brought here on a K2 visa when he was 10 years old, Gordon said. "When he graduated from the University of Utah and his father passed away, he was granted DACA status."

(8,414 posts)(at the time, he was Snoop Doggy Dog), we had to open our cases to show we didn't have a weapon before going into their studio -- the only time in my life that happened.

(8,414 posts)but then it was rather shocking to hear. We were told not to expect to see Snoop but one day he showed up in the most starched, ironed, white Ralph Lauren workout ensemble, with his dog, and he very gratefully thanked us for our music (we were playing what is called "sweetener," a.k.a. whole notes, so, no biggie) and he went around to all of us and shook our hands (very limp handshake.) I petted his very friendly dog. It was a number of sessions -- oh, and Death Row delayed the payment for the last session for so long that (because it was a Union gig) they had to end up paying us much more.
