The administration in its most recent effort to pursue its anti-DEI, or diversity, equity and inclusion, agenda threatened to withhold hundreds of millions of federal dollars unless the cities remove any mention of gender, abortion and other inclusive, according to a lawsuit published by the news outlet Fresnoland.
Last year, Trump won the vote in Fresno County by less than 1%, according to electoral maps, making him the first Republican presidential candidate to win the county since 2004. However, Trump was rejected by a wide margin across more Democrat-leaning neighborhoods inside Fresno city limits.
In specific California regions, the administration is aiming to prohibit local governments from spending federal dollars if they use inclusive language on gender, environment or abortion issues
In an Aug. 18 email, the city of Fresno was given a three-day deadline to remove any reference of equity, environmental justice and transgender references. Fresno, the lawsuit said, was informed it could not use grant funds to promote gender ideology.
The Fresno Yosemite International Airport would be stripped of an estimated $150 million in federal funding that has been allocated to construct a new air traffic control tower and make upgrades to the terminals, according to the Fresno Bee. The lawsuit said that a lack of funding would severely compromise Fresnos ability to maintain safe and reliable transit space.
