Gov. Wes Moore: "They're picking up trash."

...also, after trying to shame Gov. Moore about his 'bone-spurs' comment, Raddatz badgers him about not correcting misimpressions about a Bronze Star that was simply not processed when he had claimed he had the award, and also scolded the Afghanistan veteran for not correcting others who asserted he had one.
...the Governor responds:
"I didn't think about the fact that, hey, I wonder if my paperwork processed out. Now, I'm thankful that the that the military after they found out that the paperwork was lost and didn't process that they came back and awarded me the bronze star.
So, I current I Yes, I do. So, I do have a Bronze Star that I earned in Afghanistan and a combat action badge that I earned in Afghanistan. So, I'm proud of that, but that's not why I served..."
report Dec. 2024:
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore received a Bronze Star on Friday night for his military service in Afghanistan nearly two decades after he was deployed overseas.
The governor received the belated honor at a private ceremony at the governors mansion on Friday, during what The Washington Post reported was an emotional ceremony.
Moores former commander, Lt. Gen. Michael Fenzel, pinned the Bronze Star on the governor at the ceremony and said, Im so happy to be in a position to right a wrong, according to the Post.
Moore said after the revelation in August that he made an honest mistake for not correcting the application. He said, however, that his deputy brigade commander had recommended him for the Bronze Star and told him to include the award on his application after confirming with two other senior-level officers that they had also signed off on the commendation.
Fenzel said Friday that the Times report in August was the first time that he learned Moore never ended up receiving the Bronze Star, according to the Post, which reported that Fenzel recommended Moore again for the honor and walked the paperwork through the necessary steps himself this time around.
In an interview with the Post, Fenzel pushed back against the suggestion that Moore received special treatment, saying Moore spent months in the combat zone putting himself at risk. So, if this is special treatment, it is the treatment that he deserves.
Hes earned it. It should have happened 20 years ago, Fenzel said.

...this is the legacy of this draft dodger's presidencies, and frankly also republican bear responsibility for the way they tore down John Kerry's decorated service, that brave young men who serve heroically defending the country are denigrated for the petty political advantage of people who aren't fit to stand beside them, much less bother to even enlist.
But, yeah, they're picking up trash.
