There has been a lot said in the last year about Biden's and Trump's health, but history indicates that the White House is likely to lie about the presidents health while in office.
And several weeks before the 1944 election, with FDR running for a fourth term, McIntire doubled down, stating, The presidents health is perfectly O.K. There are absolutely no organic difficulties at all.
In fact, nothing could have been further from the truth.
By 1944, FDRs health was deteriorating rapidly. At the end of March, a cardiologist diagnosed congestive heart failure, a condition that had been aggravated by McIntires disregard of recurring symptoms. The presidents work schedule was curtailed, he was treated with digitalis and was told to smoke no more than 10 cigarettes a day.
Roosevelt was also suffering from acute hypertension. The day of McIntires optimistic April 4 statement, his blood pressure was 226/118. And on August 12, in Bremerton, Oregon, he suffered a mild heart attack while delivering a speech.

So if Trump is suddenly gone one day, it shouldn't be a surprise. All the signs of health problems are plainly visible, and the WH will continue to lie about it.
Here are the ages of presidents that died of natural causes while in office. All are much younger than Trump:
Harrison: 68
Taylor: 65
Harding: 57
FDR: 63
One odd fact that I found about FDR while looking into this. On his last day...

One of the articles about it says that everything about him was tightly controlled except his 1944 campaign.

(33,736 posts)He was healthy when he got to town, but the WH water was also contaminated with sewage. He died after a month in office.
Taylor died of "cholera". Probably because of the sewage situation. He was in office for a year. Other WH staff also were sick.
(There were a few other presidents who suffered from food born, sewage born, water born illnesses but survived)
Harding most likely died of a heart attack. He had sharp stomach pains and was given digitalis. He also had pneumonia at the time (although maybe it was congestive heart failure???) He died 2 days later. His wife did not consent to an autopsy. His official death was listed as cerebral hemorrhage, because he "convulsed" when he died.

(53,121 posts)The fact is Roosevelt was the best choice then and Biden was the best in 2024. Our ageism and our ableism lead us to make bad choices in 2024. What should matter is how the job was being done, and frankly Biden did a better job than literally anyone could have expected with the narrowest Congressional majorities in the lifetimes of many voters. I don't blame Harris who stepped up when the party bosses stabbed Biden in the back after the press printed bullshit article after bullshit article to force their hands but it was a massive blunder by both the people and our party to force the most effective President since Johnson off the ticket. BTW we did the same to Johnson and look how that turned out.

(12,692 posts)I think both sides want to project a strong president so foreign powers don't jump on a weakness or just the other party.
But that said Trumps people would let him die and keep that a secret as long as they could knowing what his cult might do.
And the rest of us dancing in the streets singing ding, dong the witch is dead!

(33,736 posts)I know Wilson was pretty much incapacitated for quite awhile.
The first two that died in office were due to poor sewage at the WH. I wouldn't consider them to have "ongoing health issues".
