deliberate destruction of farmers via tariffs. It's long, but the short take is that tariffs are devastating farmers, the bailouts mostly went to the corporate farms, leaving the little guys in bankruptcy, losing their farms. At 14:46-15:33 in the video a woman says J.D. Vance's venture capital firm Narya is invested in AcreTrader,(an app that basically sells interest in agricultural land, according to Snopes). Then at 16:36-17:23 a woman talks about the ICE activity "being part of a greater land grab."
This is a perspective I've never considered, but the sweeping ICE raids of so many thousands of immigrants that are causing the destruction of so many farmers, makes a lot more sense in that context. Wow. If this is true, farmers really need to wake the f*ck up! We will all starve to death at the rate things are going, but if these policies have been cooked up to deepen the grasp of a fascist regime on the American people, things are much worse than I'd feared. We ALL have to wake up and stop this, Left and Right together.

All the same, I've been saying since January that the Vance wanna-be ruling class (we're too close) want to buy up cheap farmland.

(6,714 posts)They don't give a fk about John Q Public, the middle class, veterans, small farmers, those who serve, or the working poor. INCLUDING THEIR OWN CONSTITUENCY.
Theirs is a massive RUSE, designed to transfer wealth, from all of us, to the filthy RICH, under the cover of chaos and conflict.

(9,091 posts)Oh no.
The corporate farms are still there.
They will be expensive and only the wealthy will be able to afford their crops. But, those same wealthy will pay it.
Plus, the wealthy can grow stuff on their own property because they have the room to do so. Those lucky enough to have the space to do so can as well. The rest cannot, especially those who live in urban areas.
It is madness, but no one is putting a stop to either the land grab, or the forced bankruptcy due to mismanaged bailouts and deliberate handing of said bailouts to corporate farms that did not need it.
However, don't worry. Once those people who keep talking trash about famers and excoriating them for not giving up farming and relocating to the cities realize that they have no food and will not be allowed to grow any themselves because of HOA rules and lack of space to even try... well, we'll see what happens.

(3,779 posts)...the machine has been primed to destroy our society for a long time and with foreign interests fueling the destruction, it often looks futile. But none of us can give up. One foot in front of the other.

(9,091 posts)It is that they don't want to lose their societal position and addressing what got us here would absolutely end up addressing that.
We cannot reset if we don't reset. Putting yet another tiny bandaid on what the greedy, fragile-egoed animals that populate our society have done is just idiotic. We need a major reset.
But, we won't do it.
It's not a question of giving up on our country. It is more a frustration in knowing that we could stop this, but we don't seem to want to badly enough.
Yet.

(9,091 posts)But, how badly do we want it?
To once again ask that question from 'The Untouchables': 'What are you prepared to do?'
Because this is not going to end at the ballot box.
