Influential NY Democrat repping Cuomo voters throws support behind Mamdani

A powerful Upper East Side state senator on Thursday revealed her decision to endorse Zohran Mamdani to be the next mayor of New York City, even though her constituents backed Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

State Sen. Liz Krueger, a Democrat who represents New York State Senate District 28, revealed her endorsement of Mamdani for mayor in a conversation with NBC New York.

According to Krueger, there are two storylines that can result from the outcome of New York City’s mayoral race.

"Do you want Andrew Cuomo to be the mayor of New York City with the help support of Donald Trump and his forces, or do you want someone who's yes, newer, less experienced, but with the right goals and ideology, who's gonna stand up for all New Yorkers?"

Despite efforts by outsiders, I think Democrats (and yes, even the "Democratic Establishment" ) are onboard with supporting the primary winner.

I think some pols don't want to offend Cuomo but their support will fade.

I expect that by November nearly all NYC Democrats will throw their support behind Mamdani.

I think people forget that most elected Democrats don't know Mamdani. He's new to politics. Many want to have a conversation or two before officially endorsing.
