Watching RFK Jr. Is Heartbreaking

His father, his uncle the president, Muhammad Ali, and Martin Luther King Jr. were my heroes when I was fourteen years old and they are still my heroes today. Ernest Hemingway said as you get older it's harder to have heroes but it is kind of necessary.

JFK
RFK
Ted
John Jr.
Jackie O
Ethel

Every one of them was nationally mourned.

But he’s sullied the name so much, i can’t imagine it recovers.

Supposedly even Ethel. It has been reported that she called Biden to apologize for her wayward son when he was running against Biden for the nomination.

This is a family better known for closing ranks than for airing it's fights publicly.

However none of them would have become a MAGA. What a world in where George Bush's daughter actively campaigned for Kamals Harris and Robert Kenney's son became a MAGA.

"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

RFK Jr is literally that person.

He had a strong family that would have intervened in every way possible to get him the help he needed but he chose to go his own way and even drag others with him. Even today, he has resources but he has not taken advantage of them, either.

before Trump took him on--- while most of the rest of his family denounced him....

Many families have one 'black sheep'. I think the Kennedy legacy will survive him.

His slide into the abyss can't undo his ancestors achievements. He does look weirdly possessed by some demon. I wish I believed in that shit. He is just an asshole.

Just a month after his Dad's murder, I was anchored in a submarine in Edgartown Harbor July 4th week, and the sympathy that poured out for his family and Jackie Kennedy, who was on Joseph E Levine's yacht at the dock, was off the charts with grief and sadness. As would be expected in Kennedy country back in the day.

Now the islanders trash both maga-Derschowitz and RFK Jr as sorry ass losers in the house of trump. Sad for the rest of the K family.

I was a young lad, playing on the kitchen table and I heard my mother crying in the living room...
I went in and she was watching the black and white tv, and they were showing what happened...
all the chaos, as the news kept breaking, she sat there crying because of a man they saw as an honorable man.
As the days past after that, when the funeral was televised, our whole nation mourned.
I can remember seeing both mom and dad watching the funeral... I can picture them in their favorite chairs, watching tv, and crying.... That is what I remember of the Kennedy Family, the grace and honesty, service to country, and giving one's life for it, is now, sadly, is being tarnished by a family member now...

Thanksgiving, and it was the only thing on tv. All of the adults were talking about it, but the immediate shock was over.

I was in 8th grade at the time. Decades later I went to a reunion at my junior high, and I was still able to find the exact spot in the cafeteria where I was standing, when a schoolmate came up to me and told me that JFK and Connolly had been shot. I had school friends whose parents were planning on attending a JFK speech that night in Austin. The cadence of those muffled drums at the funeral service the following week still echoes in my memory. Way too profound and sad to forget.
