Hundreds Arrested in Immigration Raid at Hyundai Site in Georgia

Hundreds of people including South Korean workers were arrested in an immigration raid at a Hyundai Motor battery plant under construction in Georgia, weeks after the carmaker pledged $26 billion in U.S. investments.

South Korea protested the action to the U.S. and said it was trying to secure the release of its citizens.

Around 450 people were arrested, said the Atlanta office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in a social-media post. The post described the people as “unlawful aliens.”

The raid and arrests come after months of tense negotiations between the U.S. and South Korea over tariffs and investment. In late July, the two countries agreed that a 15% tariff rate would be imposed on South Korean imports in exchange for South Korea investing $350 billion in the U.S.

The factory is being built by a joint venture between South Korea-based Hyundai Motor and a South Korean battery manufacturer, LG Energy Solution. It is located in the town of Ellabell, near Savannah, Ga., and is part of a $7.6 billion Hyundai complex that the state has described as the largest manufacturing project in Georgia’s history.

The plant, once completed, is set to supply batteries to Hyundai Motor’s nearby electric-vehicle manufacturing plant, which opened last year. Hyundai has pledged to employ 8,500 people there by 2031 as part of a $2 billion incentive package it received from Georgia.

We haven't heard much of Herr Stevo detaining many Asians until now. I can't think South Korea would allow undocumented workers into the US, given the given toxic environment.

Traitor believes his tariffs will drive manufacturers to build in the US but this raid only amplifies the risk.

This plant had to have been conceived and approved under a friendly Biden administration since these take a few years from proposal to reality.

And now Hyundai’s specialists are getting arrested and construction halted. Maybe even to extort more bribes er, tariffs.

10. After the 2031 Hyundai plant opening

This plant is expected to employ around 8000 workers when it is at full operating capacity. Remember, weeks ago Hyundai announced a $26B investment in the US. Krasnov is risking this all because he wants to continue this culture war.

I still think this is part of his retribution tour for Georgia not "finding" some 11,780 votes in 2020 to give him the win.

They will either cancel them under some "National Emergency" BS or they have the key to rigging elections.

I assume if they had the ability to rig elections, they would not have lost the high-profile Wisconsin Supreme Court or other special elections.

I'm leaning to the National Emergency BS.

My guess is that 99.5 percent of those arrested were Hispanic construction workers. South Korea will have to pay some kind of bribe to trump to get their handful of people released (some small visa oversight?).
The question for the South Koreans is going to be, where will they find workers to complete the plant on time? Will we give the South Koreans a list of local Medicaid recipients?

Are there any Japanese workers working in America?

This action against Hyundai is not a good thing. It would not surprise me if Hyundai closed shop here. There goes auto jobs. It could come down to that.
