"The white Europeans who settled America and conquered the West believed they were forging a nationa homeland for themselves and their descendants, he said. They fought, they bled, they struggled, they died for us. They built this country for us. America, in all its glory, is their gift to us, handed down across the generations. It belongs to us...."

We Americans are the sons and daughters of the Christian pilgrims that poured out from Europes shores to baptize a new world in their ancient faith. Our ancestors were driven here by destiny, possessed by urgent and fiery conviction, by burning belief, devoted to their cause and their God.
...
As the historian David McCullough writes, the Scots-Irish families that first settled Missouri saw themselves as the true Americans:

So yeah, settling a country already inhabited by Native Americans is what he's proud of, and he thinks you need European Christian ancestry to be an American. And that it's about God, and Manifest Destiny - he defends:
'The Department of Homeland Securitys Twitter account posted an image of the famous painting American Progressone of the most iconic illustrations of Manifest Destiny, depicting settlers striding outward to the frontier, with Lady Columbia watching over them from above.'

(12,927 posts)Its a gross distortion to claim that only white people built this country, but it probably is not a distortion to say that only white people murdered millions of Native Americans to take their lands.

Dump has repeatedly said that he wants to go after the "home growns". The next logical step is arrests and detainment of American citizens. DOJ/FBI/Homeland Security have been staffed with people who will have no problem with pursuing this.
They're already sending people to prisons in Uganda and South Sudan who have been convicted of no crime, who have had no type of hearing or due process at all.
I guess the mainstream media has mentioned it, but the degree that this has been normalized, not just by the right wing press, but overall, is shocking. All outlets should be screaming about this 24/7; there should be masses out in the streets.

(160,329 posts)since the day their ancestors were dragged over here 400 years ago, and every day in the current era. Statistics are published continually and no one seems to care or attempts to remedy the problem.
Newcomers are even "warned" that historically, this country has always flipped at any time to go after others, but...

(38,680 posts)That's the answer. I'm not an immigrant ... I'm a Caucasian middle-class woman, but I always have my US passport to show ID. I advise anyone who might be stopped, please get and carry a US passport. Don't allow it to be taken away from you.
I also have a copy of my birth certificate but I don't usually carry it with me because it's fragile.
If you have a Green Card or any other ID, use the same precaution, but also carry another form of ID such as a state driver's license or voting card.

(2,020 posts)Its only a matter of time until Sotomayor is stopped on her way to work, or at a restaurant, or out shopping, by some ICE goon who thinks/pretends shes an illegal. Hell get to humiliates, detain her, even incarcerate her just because of the color of her skin, eyes, or hair. The rest of the Supremes surely knew that they were setting it up.
So Im guessing inside 30 days.

(3,345 posts)Racial profiling HAS been in the law enforcement toolbox with little recourse even before this decision. Cops have already realized this for years.
I know there's a cop saying in at least one city:
Q: What do you call a black man on a bike?
A: Probable cause.
I heard this over 30 years ago.

This isn't just about brown people like me. It's about all obviously white males being exempt, period. Not just obvious minorities but also all women can be stopped, frisked and questioned in states with laws against abortion. Think about it.
Welcome to my world. "We asked you nicely", not to vote for him, "now youse can't leave." It's just a matter of time.
Oh, and those pesky laws about pedophelia, rich white guys, don't worry about them. Have at it, you're exempt.
Slavery, back on the books in no time.
It's a trickle now, but the flood is coming thanks to 6 King makers on the Supreme Court. That includes one black male that won't live to see what his vote has done and one white female that will get a box seat to watch what her work has done.
Stupid, stupid, stupid voters.

Source: Huff Post
Sep 8, 2025, 03:21 PM EDT | Updated an hour ago
Justice Sonia Sotomayor issued a scathing dissent to Mondays Supreme Court ruling authorizing immigration agents use of racial profiling, saying its unconscionably irreconcilable with the U.S. Constitution.
We should not have to live in a country where the Government can seize anyone who looks Latino, speaks Spanish, and appears to work a low wage job, Sotomayor wrote.

That is horrible. Dems should be actively campaigning o issues like this. The average person doesn't understand how the court works, it with some repetition, we could make the "shadow docket" think stick. That phrase already sounds like Darth Vader. We don't have to explain. Just go with , "If you give the Democrats a governing majority, we will reform the Supreme Court, with term limits, a strict code of conduct and ethics, the end of the shadow docket, and no more stolen seats."

(3,023 posts)Hitler, like Trump, started with a few "out groups" and, seeing how simple it was to get away with mass murdering them, he advanced his idea to encompass everyone, potentially. And he did, in fact, use his ICE troops to snatch people off the street and disappear them. (Oh, wait, did I say ICE? Of course I meant its father, the Gestapo.
Your well-taken point is that without constantly ramming home the comparison, the assault on Democracy is allowed to continue, without the vilification it requires.
The SCOTUS -- and Roberts SCOTUS is the worst in our history, the most shamefacedly partisan Court in our history. By allowing ICE to profile hispanics, these bastards -- and bastardette -- knowingly and eagerly opened the door for their favorite "president" to use his absolute power to arrest, detain, and deport or literally kill anyone he dislikes.
And this is not in any degree an exaggeration. The boa constrictor, as Shel Silverstein reminds us, starts at your feet, nibbling a bit at your toes and ankles, but it never, never stops there. It gradually moves up until it has consumed the entire body. What was the tag line of the song?
"Oh, dread, its up to my . . . ."
