The United States has crossed a dangerous line.
Last week, an American military platform destroyed a small vessel in the Caribbean, killing 11 people the Trump administration claims were drug traffickers. It was not an interception. It was not a boarding with Coast Guard legal authority. It was a strikeordered from Washington, executed in international waters, and justified with little more than trust us. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Fox that officials knew exactly who was in that boat and exactly what they were doing. He offered no evidence.

It is a significant act of bravery, for this to be published now. It will have a significant impact.

(14,571 posts)And Maduro's government put a tracker on the boat they were using to head out to international waters and pick up, say, money, supplies, weapons, information...
Since Maduro says it didn't happen, chances are if it did happen, if this wasn't made up AI slop, it was done with his blessing.

(4 posts)The boat attack was probably insurance in case Scotus ever rejects his deportations. If he can start a war with Venezuela (no matter how short) then he can deport Venezuelan immigrants legally under the Enemy Aliens act. Just another way to deport people. A back up plan, but one where he can say it's under the guise of making the US safer from drugs.

(217 posts)were fleeing Venezuela. But since there is no evidence, we don't really know what was going on. We do know that Stephen Miller has expressed a desire to blow up migrants, and it looks like he might have gotten his wish.

(11,796 posts)11 people and a few kilos of cocaine on that boat? Yeah, it just doesn't make sense. And yup, Miller is the source of most of the "cruelty as a deterrence" strategies, ever since child separation -- and he's probably jerking off watching this video over and over.

Which is one court he does NOT own.
