Now to the larger question - of why the American people found this sad case of arrested development (and starkly obvious ugly and mean-spirited character) a popular choice - as leader of the free world? THAT'S the part that interests me! (far more than antecedents)

(63,181 posts)To a large extent our full steam ahead total devotion to a capitalist society via 24/7/365 commercialization of everything under the sun for at least three quarters of a century has stunted our development as well.
Selling is largely done via emotion, not reason, how does the product make you feel?

Yes absolutely, people would have freaked at the napalm comment had it been associated with the iconic victim photo. But he (or his people) cleverly used an image invoking wanting to burn it all down! Which is exactly why his voters loved him (drain the swamp, clean up Washington, hurt the liberals, whatever)
