I am in SE Ohio and my local Kroger Pharmacy had both the Moderna and Pfizer in stock that they just got in this week. I am over 65 and they mentioned they would get it in when I was picking up an Rx a week ago.
They had all my insurance on file but I do not have a part D drug policy right now. But they said it was covered so I just filled out a form and then they have a small room where the pharmacist comes and gives the shot.
It has been about 24 hours and some mild discomfort at the injection site like I had bumped it, but nothing noticeable otherwise. I think it has been two years since my last booster, but I thought I better get one while the getting was good with this moron gang in office.
This is important to me as in 2021 my 87year old mother was in an ICU ward from a month with COVID and recovered somewhat but passed six months later from the overall degradation to her health.
My next physical is in about a month, so I will probably do the flu shot then, so this is a good spacing.

(32,846 posts)I used Walgreens online scheduling form. It selects stores by zip code offering appointments for shots, with which vaccines are available at each store. My regular Walgreens pharmacy I use was not on the list, but I did schedule with another one just a few more miles away.

(12,431 posts)I'm over 65 and I made a Walgreens appointment online for today. I showed up and they told me I need a prescription first.
There was another older woman in line and she was pissed off because she'd just learned the same thing.
But -- they said they if my doctor called it in, I could get the shot. So I'm going in again tomorrow to get it.
We're not used to jumping through these new hoops.

(155,152 posts)It had been about a year since my last Covid booster, and I was eager to get the newest vaccine. 2 days ago, I went into my CVS drugstore and got the vaccine. Phizer this time.
My arm was sore a little for about 24 hours. That was it.
My husband and I have had every booster that has been available, and as far as we know, we've never caught Covid.

That's why cutting research funding will kill us.
I will question anything from rfk and hhs. (No respect, no caps.)

(504 posts)Got the flu and covid shot this morning. Theres a lot of confusion here in NCabout the covid shot. Until this week you could not even get one no matter how old you were. Doctors, pharmacies, clinics did not know what to do. NC requires a script even if you are age eligible. So I guess if you were an adult under 65 with no risk factors (diabetes, obesity, etc.) you will have to pay out of pocket. Thats not right.
This will probably be the last of the covid vaccine because of all the budget cuts. Do you think they will update the flu each season to protect against the new strains?
Cant believe a person in the US that wants a vaccine cant get it.

(948 posts)I have a visit with my oncologist this week for treatment.
I tried to schedule an appointment with Walgreens but they wanted a prescription before they would book the appointment.
I am not yet 65 but am immuno-compromised due to chemotherapy treatments every 3 weeks.
This is just ridiculous.

(9,285 posts)There is one wrinkle: if you are 65 or over and not on Medicare, because you are covered by your employers health insurance, you will need a prescription from your doctor.

(35,195 posts)I am under 65 and immune suppressed (CVS well aware, they fill most of my prescriptions). They didn't hassle me or charge me money out of pocket - I have private insurance. My arm was sore for at least 24 hours, but Advil helped. Small price to pay.
Being immune suppressed, the early Pfizer shots did not produce antibodies (I was in a research study so I had my antibody levels); but the Moderna shots helped a lot. I have now had 10 vaccines total. I don't blame people who are perfectly healthy if they want to take their chances, but I appreciate that these boosters are still available for over 65 and those like me who have chronic health issues.

My pharmacy (Marianos/Kroger) told me I was not eligible for the Moderna, they were only allowed to give that to people over 65 - I didnt want to wait another 3 months (who knows what will occur in the meantime) so I made an appointment at CVS and got it there no problem (Im type 2 diabetic)
They never even asked me for my insurance card. And they gave me a free bag of popcorn and offered me an I was Brave sticker

(3,610 posts)Needed a prescription, but got it from my drs office. Arms were sore, but that was it. Usually with the Covid vaccine, I get quite the reaction with fever, chills and fatigue, This time was different. I wonder why?

(127,257 posts)I just walked in, no appointment needed, and there was no problem, though the person getting my records seemed to be trying to reinvent the wheel. Maybe she was new. Anyhow, once the paperwork was done I didn't have to wait long. Pharmacist thinks it will be the same protocol as before, another booster OK in six months, but he said he couldn't be sure, mentioned RFK JR and rolled his eyes. So far just a sore arm.

(5,305 posts)No trouble with Medicare Advantage. Achy last night, woozy today, just woke up from a long nap. No doubt better than Covid.
