So People Want to Slut-Shame You Into Feeling "Regret" Over Kirk?

and condemning “politically-motivated” assassination as a horrible terrible thing.

PALEEEEEEZE.

First, we don’t know YET (i.e., as of my writing this) if it was political. Jiust because Kash Patel says it doesn’t make it true. Whoever it was had skill. I’ve seen enough “action and adventure” films to understand that about 200 meters into the neck isn’t something some the average idiot can do.

Second, Charlie Kirk was the guy that said “some gun deaths 'worth it' in order to have Second Amendment.”* Live by the gun, die by the gun. Literally.

Third, this is the world that the GOP and NRA made, with “bipartisan” help (or acquiescece). Our national legislative branch has been singularly inept at any gun control. All two parties have helped, though the GOP helped much more. Overt gun control advocates are a small minority in both houses, because that might cause those “moderate” (i.e., reactionarly) voters to vote for the other side.

Am I dancing a jig or shouting joy to the heavens over this. Not really. I know that anytime a political actor is assasssinated, there’s another to take his/her place. That person will probably be a worse asshole. There are lots more where Charlie came from. The best we can hope for is that they factionalize.

But as to Charlie Kirk, all I can say is “too bad it took so long.” If I ever stumble over his grave, I’ll pour good whisky on it - passed through my body first. So no, I feel no "regret."

political or otherwise. As you said, we don't know yet whether the shooting was politically-motivated, though it's not an unreasonable guess, considering how extreme and controversial Kirk was. However, people often shoot political people for reasons that aren't political: For example, John Hinckley didn't shoot Reagan because he objected to his politics but because he was a wack job who wanted to get Jodie Foster's attention by emulating Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver. Gabby Giffords' shooter was also motivated by a weird obsession with the Congresswoman that wasn't noticeably political. We still don't know what motivated Lee Harvey Oswald. But even if the shooter wasn't motivated by Kirk's Nazi-adjacent politics and had some other reason, shooting him was no less unacceptable. I note that Kirk has stated that some gun deaths are the price of our Second Amendment "freedom." So I have to wonder whether he thought his own ass was an acceptable price to pay. I don't think any gun deaths, political or otherwise - are an acceptable price to pay for the Second Amendment. But I will not shed a single tear for Charlie Kirk, nor will I dance on his grave.

So we have a guy making statements glorifying gun deaths in Utah... Later dying by gunshot in... Utah.

I'm torn between someone upstairs having a sense of humor or ironic karma here.
