Law enforcement sources told Daily Mail that Robinson was taken into custody as the alleged assassin who killed Kirk at a rally at Utah Valley University in Utah on Wednesday.
-snip-
Sources told CNN that the killer then confessed to his father, who worked at the Washington County Sheriff's Department, reports say. His father then contacted authorities and secured his son before he could be taken into custody.
The New York Times reported that the suspect was taken into custody around 11pm local time in southern Utah on Thursday night. The alleged shooter lived in a $600,000 six-bedroom home in Washington, Utah - around 260 miles south of where the carnage unfolded in Orem.
Little is known of Robinson at this time, and officials have not yet released a motive to the shooting.

muriel_volestrangler
(104,634 posts)That seems so unlikely that I don't feel like sitting through an interview of the Worst Person in the World. I'd also think that if Trump had said something so damning about Republicans, more people would have talked about it.

(104,634 posts)"Turn on the TV" is a particularly useless bit of advice for me in the UK (and would be for many DUers in the USA too - who might be at work, for instance); but I still don't think that all of the TV news channels are currently reporting the suspect is a Republican - seeing as only one DUer has said it so far, and none of the web pages I've see so far have mentioned it.

(18,276 posts)At least he did the right thing. Still you do have to question his parenting skills in rearing a murderer (right likes to throw that out all the time).
Must be all the Christian propaganda that the son was being fed that led to him murdering Kirk.

(13,492 posts)I'm tired of hearing the right saying "they (the left) did this." No one on the legitimate left would even think of doing something like this. Only the radical, false left, clingers-onwhom the legit left needs to disown and discardwould.
I'd argue the best of the left (the majority and the authentic left) are disgusted by the assassination, and they hate the perp and the act. The right shouldn't talk about the act as of "the left." It's not. It's of the lost and of the scumbags. Not the left.

(114 posts)Apparently the young MAGAs are deeply invested in the Epstein case, wanting all documents released regardless of who they implicate. Kirk had recently been vacillating on the subject, first calling for full transparency, then declaring the issue dead (after a phone call from frump himself). His young followers very vocally objected to the back-tracking, so Kirk switched it up again and called for release of the docs. This prompted looney toons Laura Loomer to declare him a traitor to the cause - thereby painting a target on his back. From the *right*, not the left.

(1,542 posts)cuz he's a narcissist. But back to our regularly scheduled politics, this doesn't lower the temp of the Epstein story IMO. It de-rails it for a few days max. Massie was in the news yesterday with this:

(6,041 posts)I grew up during the civil rights era in Jackson, Miss. Then in Ft. Worth, Texas for a couple of teenage years. My parents were Democrats and definitely liberal. My father regularly warned me and my younger sister to keep quiet about our opinions regarding the civil rights movement. It was not because he was ashamed of it. It was about safety. He knew it was dangerous for anyone admitting to be on the positive side of civil rights. I was not allowed to put a Democratic bumper sticker on my three ring binder when I was in high school. Concern for the safety of his children is why my father insisted we keep our political preferences to ourselves. The fear lingers on to this day and I seldom reveal my political views unless I know you very well. That is one reason I love DU .because it feels safe here.

I once drove through Utah and people seemed friendly. I was this young brown guy driving across the country in a shitty compact.
They even offered to look over my car mechanics for free when I stopped at a place.
I miss that time (not the economy, this was 09). Im not saying it was perfect, far from it, but it felt like for maybe a short period we had a chance to not just view each other with complete suspicion and paranoia.

In fact it kind of works the other way. Tech types are often offered help in interpersonal communication at companies where they work. I used to provide such seminars; that's how I know.
