Looks like the man who allegedly shot Kirk had a family life steeped in gun culture and republicanism

Not a 'leftist.'

Meidas:

The motive for the shooting is not yet clear. Records indicate that several members of Robinson’s family are registered Republicans. Robinson’s political affiliation has not yet been identified. Social media posts show that Robinson’s family were NRA supporters and possessed or owned multiple guns, including rifles of the type used in the Kirk shooting.

One social media image featured Robinson dressed in a Donald Trump costume for Halloween:

In one image from when Robinson appeared to be a teenager, he was seen posing with an M2 Browning 50. calibre machine gun, another showed him posing with a scoped rifle.

Facebook posts from his mother showed Robinson and his two younger brothers at gun ranges and military events, both registered Republicans.

At Christmas in 2017, he was seen holding a new iPhone and his brother held a 'build it yourself' rifle kit, as his family wore matching red outfits.

...that's the point.

Not supposing that costume means the shooter as an adult was a trump supporter.

They clarified that despite initial reports, none of the etchings were associated with the transgender community.

That said, they described one of the bullets as carrying the message, "Hey, fascist! Catch!" Given the verbiage there, plus a family friend reportedly saying that Robinson "didn't like Kirk's ideology" and had "become more political in recent years", it seems reasonable to infer that Robinson's political leanings are to the left of the spectrum these days, whatever his family's political leanings might be.

I know everyone wants to believe that this was internecine violence on the right, but I don't think that's going to end up being the case. And if he was indeed somewhere on the left of the political spectrum, I suspect things are going to get even uglier now.

It's deeply unfortunate in many ways. Charlie Kirk didn't deserve to be murdered because of his political beliefs/ideology. That we've reached a point where people are okay with such things, even openly celebrating them (no one on DU, to be clear, not that I've seen) is truly, truly sad and reprehensible.

It speaks of very dark times ahead for America. I'm very, very glad I no longer live there.

That message is a gaming meme, along with at least one of the other reported messages.

Source? A brief Google search turned up only items related to the etching on the bullet rather than its provenance in the gaming community.

Edit: One of the links I turned up mentioned other etchings, one of which was “Notices, bulges, OwO, what's this?” The article described it as associated with meme culture, anime, and gaming.

They mentioned the "Hey, fascist! Catch!" etching but didn't link it to gaming in any way, so I'm happy to take a look at your source.

Presumably you are also a pretty enthusiastic Democrat -- have you ever heard any of us say, "Hey, fascist! Catch!" very often?

It's a stratagem in a single game that I've never seen referenced anywhere else in gaming media. I've played Helldivers 2 for about ten hours or so and never saw that stratagem nor did I hear any other player refer to it.

And while I haven't heard another Democrat say "Hey, fascist! Catch!" before, I most certainly have heard and read other Democrats describing pretty much anyone and everyone on the right as a fascist, so there's that.

I think it's probable that Robinson played Helldivers 2 and lifted the name of that stratagem because it aligned with his views on Kirk, particularly given his family member commenting that he didn't like Kirk's ideology.

It's also possible that Robinson has no real political ideology to speak of, though given his choice of target that seems unlikely to me.

You're free to disagree if you wish, of course. Preferably without slipping in veiled aspersions, if it can be managed.

PS - Laura Loomer also disagreed with Kirk's ideology. As did Nick Fuentes.
