(7,904 posts)I am not a detective and watching law and order and the closer does not make me one. But I think when you have a crime, you look at people that are the most likely suspects. If you have a group of individuals known for making threats to a certain individual - then it would be silly to overlook that and look at others.
I recently posted a video of Fuentes " crashing out" as the kids say - calling out Kirk and others. He has some nutty followers.
Then there will be those that are unfamiliar with the underbelly of the internet and meme culture - Its like learning a different language with those folks.

Like the Butler, PA "assassin." Name and motive? Anyone? Anyone?

(1,399 posts)What's happening here basically is they're aware that the Left (correctly) refers to their movement as fascist, so they respond by saying "huh-uh, you're the fascists". Their "evidence" is basically that "socialist" is one of the words from which "nazi" is derived. And they think like "our voices are being unfairly silenced by the Left (also bullshit), and the Nazi's also didn't allow freedom of speech, therefore, the left are the "real" Nazi/Fascists".
They either have no idea, or do not care if they do, that it is factually accurate to say about that 90% of what THEY espouse is exactly what the Nazi's espoused (and the opposite is true of the Left), most of them don't want to be seen, at least not publicly, as little Nazis. They just want to say "I know you are but what am I", and the historical facts don't matter to them.
So, this is why they embrace a historically anti-fascist song like Bella Ciao.
It's also notable that the song appears in the video game "Far Cry 6", in which you play a freedom fighter against an evil dictator (who's referred to in the game as fascist) in a fictional semi-tropical country that has a lot of Cuban vibes, like it's something of a stand-in for it. The actual politics of the fictional evil dictator (played quite excellently by Giancarlo Esposito) are really never outlined, other than he's murderous, oppressive, and heavily involved in the drug trade.
They don't know history, they don't know that fascist = far right, like communist = far left. They think "fascist communist" is a pair of of words that make sense when combined, when they absolutely do not.

(176 posts)Most are probably as clueless as you suggest, but you know there are others who hope to muddy the waters and take all the meaning out of words like fascist. I remember how flabbergasted I was the first time I saw republicans doing this during the Bush II administration. Now its becoming routine.
AZJonnie
(1,399 posts)But your point is taken. I think the "leaders' mostly do, but the "followers" mostly do not. Fair?
yliza
(176 posts)I do that sometimes.

(12,977 posts)Everything is dumbed down so kids can pass "the tests" to prove they "are learning". Thanks a lot, Shrub.
When I had World History as a sophomore in high school, we took a deep dive into the various systems of government. They were discussed at length, and there were comparisons between them. There were even comparisons made between the various systems of democratic government, and between the governments of China and the USSR (see how long ago that was?).Some of the essay questions on the tests were rather nasty, too. Oh, and this was not an AP class, either. There were no such things back then. It was just a regular class in a high school in a university town.

(7,207 posts)You are right, the system has gone to 'quantify by test scores' and kids are not getting educated well. Essays? Don't make me laugh. Most younger people can't do it as they have no context to call on to explain what they do or don't know.
Planned dumbing down of the population. It's how our nation gets taken down.
AntiFascist
(13,629 posts)people need to read this to understand the roots of fascism, which Nazis then took to the extreme.
The Far-Right oligarchs who funded Charlie Kirk and continue to support Trump appear to want more civil violence, where they will then profit from the ensuing authoritarian regime.

And agree, they don't make sense anymore , well lots of folks don't, the MSM sure don't , but there are many good intelligent people old and young , The bought and paid for by billionaire's media sure doesn't make it seem that way though , I consider the entirety of the MSM toxic and avoid it like the plague of ignorance it is, glad to have got in the better part before this sad state of affairs

(25,641 posts)that a not-closer read might see as "antifascist." There are layers and it's a lot more than "stupid gamers online."

Honestly ,never even heard the word"groyper" before. That is some sick and twisted shit. Anything involving Fuentes is always going to be disgusting. Like "I need a shower right now" disgusting.
But if fascist and Christian white nationalists want to go to war with each other far be it from me to stop them.
Skittles
(167,241 posts)but that term in not surprising, for a group that caters to straight white conservative males who cannot handle not being the center of the universe

(19,616 posts)I know some trolls/closeted Trump supporters are invested in that narrative, even here. But based on whats known so far:
1. Hes a terminally online soulless gamer consumed by that culture to the point of nuttery but with totally incoherent political beliefs.
2. Hes a groyper who hated Kirk because he wasnt enough of a RWNJ and viewed him as a fascist. As others have pointed out the groyper/mainstream maga turf war is real. Groypers see Trump and media influencers like Kirk as establishment types who have sold out the movement. Unfortunately this is too nuanced for our media to consistently and accurately convey.
3. 1 and 2 in some combination.

(33,694 posts)I still don't know what a groyper is, but I don't think this guy is a leftist. Looks like a gamer caught up in younger generation stuff that I don't understand.
All I know, is I was listening to Amos/Moses and my son comes in the room, "Hey that's from a video game".
So is Tunak Tunak Tun in War of the Worlds. Heck if I know what the lyrics to Tunak Tunak Tun mean?
