that so many right-wingers and others claimed burst forth from American liberals on Wednesday. I have seen liberals make note of the awful things Kirk promoted in attempts to soberly calm some of the hagiography erupting from the entire ring-wing sphere and the mainstream media.
But outright "celebration"? Nope.
Maybe they thought it was celebratory in contrast to the silence that met the ongoing stream of political violence committed by thousands of American right wing extremists over the last decades. I am sure there were some on the left who used Kirk's death as fodder for humor, as Kirk did with the brutal assault suffered by Nancy Pelosi's family. But those were largely passed in personal communique.

Violence isn't the right way to deal with people like him, but I will not pretend that he was a good man.

(3,366 posts)A commentator on MSNBC implied that Kirk got what he deserved and lost his job for it, so there's that. Pretty tactless, in my opinion.
There have also been a number of TikToks circulating where people are openly gleeful and happy about Kirk being murdered, so there's also that. They're out there if you care to look for them. I wouldn't describe it as mass joy or anything, but each individual one is absolutely reprehensible.
But "the left" isn't celebrating his murder, that's true enough. Neither the left nor the right is a monolithic entity.

(3,366 posts)No doubt the people celebrating his murders in these videos are on the left of the political spectrum, though. Equally without doubt, they are reprehensible.

Kirk, 31, was the founder of the right-leaning youth organization Turning Point USA and a longtime ally of President Donald Trump. On Wednesday, as Kirk delivered a speech under a tent to a large crowd at Utah Valley University in Orem, a single gunshot struck him in the neck, and he collapsed. After being rushed to a local hospital, Kirk was later pronounced dead.
Since then, dozens of posts have appeared on Bluesky celebrating his death.

(9,127 posts)I would take exception to a detail of their description. Kirk wasn't "delivering" a speech. He was trying to antagonize individuals and provoke others in the process.
