Happening this week, starting tomorrow: Utah’s legislature is meeting to adopt a new congressional map after a court order.

All five draft maps would transform a safely GOP seat into a swing district that’d be very winnable for Dems.

It looks like GOP lawmakers are trying to avoid drawing a safely blue seat; so as a result they seem intent on drawing a very-slightly-lean-Dem district but that comes at the cost of making a 2nd Utah district potentially winnable for Dems if it’s a blue year. Let’s see if they stick with that risk.

For ppl wondering what’s going on

—Utahns approved redistricting standards.
—GOP overturned ballot measure, gerrymandered state by splitting Salt Lake in four.
—Last year court said you can’t just overturn a ballot measure, it’s back on.
—This summer court said gerrymander violates that measure.
