Yes, indeed..the Hatch Act
"I have been contacted by numerous constituents outraged by the fact that the Trump Administration is now sending out blatantly partisan messages, both on official Websites and through emails from federal agencies. These official agency messages blame Senate Democrats and the Radical Left for the government shutdown. Taxpayer-funded service agencies like the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Small Business Administration are now being turned into MAGA propaganda organs.
"This looks like a naked violation of the Hatch Act, which forbids partisan activity in the federal workplace. If any agency head under any previous Administration ever used official letterhead to promote their political views, they would have been instantly fired, if not prosecuted. There is a reason for this. Taxpayers cannot be forced to be a captive audience for propaganda against the Administrations opponents every time they inquire about their benefits and rights. Nor may an Administration grant itself a campaign contribution of free nationwide political ads by hijacking agency service messages. Surely the Trump Administration would be firing any Executive Branch employee today who set up an official Website message blaming Trump and Republicans for shutting down the government.
"One of the main distinctions between our country and Putins Russia, Xis China or Kim Jong-uns North Korea is that government services and communications channels may not be perverted into instruments of partisan propaganda. If Trump and Stephen Miller get away with this, there is no limit to the kinds of partisan polemics that can be passed off as government speech.
"I have also received reports that the U.S. Department of Educationafter their employees have left neutral and nonpartisan out-of-office messages for correspondence during the shutdownhas now replaced these out-of-office messages without the employees consent with a completely political diatribe purportedly authored by that employee: Thank you for contacting me. On September 19, 2025, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5371, a clean continuing resolution. Unfortunately, Democrat Senators are blocking passage of H.R. 5371 in the Senate which has led to a lapse in appropriations. Due to the lapse in appropriations, I am currently in furlough status. This is a form of identity theft. It fraudulently depicts federal workers as personally disseminating a political message that they have never approved, do not want to be associated with and may be illegal.
"President Trump is free to spout any partisan nonsense he wants from his giant bully pulpit. But he may not coerce federal employees into joining his choir. I am calling on every agency and Department head implicated in these forms of Orwellian miscommunication to remove them immediately. This is an intolerable abuse of power.

Yeah it's never been enforced but people have had to publicly apologize for possibly breaking it before. No one even cares now.

(889 posts)They blame the Democrats for the government shutdown. Here's what they said:
As you may be aware, funding for some government agencies, including portions of the Department of Veterans Affairs, expired at midnight this morning.
President Trump opposes a lapse in appropriations, and on September 19, the House of Representatives passed, with the Trump Administrations support, a clean continuing resolution to fund the government through November 21. Unfortunately, Democrats are blocking this Continuing Resolution in the U.S. Senate due to unrelated policy demands.
During the current lapse in funding, the vast majority of VA benefits and services will continue uninterrupted, but the government shutdown is not without consequences to VA. Here is what you need to know:
The following critical Veterans care and assistance programs will be impacted by the government shutdown:
VA will not provide Veteran career counseling or transition assistance program activities.
The GI Bill Hotline will be closed.
VA regional benefits offices will be closed.
VA will cease public affairs and outreach to Veterans.
VA will not permanently place headstones or maintain the grounds at VA national cemeteries.
VA will not process applications for pre-need burials.
VA will not print new presidential memorial certificates.
Thankfully, the government shutdown will not impact the following VA services:
Veteran health care is not impacted. VA Medical Centers, Outpatient Clinics, and Vet Centers will be open.
VA benefits will continue to be processed and delivered, including compensation, pension, education, and housing benefits.
Burials will continue at VA national cemeteries. Applications for headstones, markers, and burial benefits processing will continue.
The Board of Veterans Appeals will continue decisions on Veterans cases.
VA Contact Centers (1-800-MyVA411) and the Veterans Crisis Line (Dial 988, Press 1) are open 24/7.
This has to be a blatant violation of the Hatch Act. I'd want Congress or the Justice Department to investigate this but since both are controlled by republicans and the Orange Turd that won't happen.

(1,422 posts)Have never seen any President successfully prosecuted for violating the Hatch Act.
_______________________
No sitting U.S. president has ever been successfully prosecuted for violating the Hatch Act.
Heres why:
The Hatch Act of 1939 restricts partisan political activity by federal employees, but the President and Vice President are explicitly exempt from its provisions (5 U.S.C. § 7322 and § 7324).
The Act applies to most executive branch employees, with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) as the enforcing authority. Penalties can include removal, demotion, or fines but not criminal prosecution.
Because the law does not cover the President, there has never been a prosecution of a sitting president for a Hatch Act violation.
However, administrations have often been accused of Hatch Act violations. For example:
Trump officials (Kellyanne Conway, Mike Pompeo, others) were cited by the OSC for repeated violations.
Obama officials (Kathleen Sebelius, Julián Castro) also received Hatch Act warnings.
But again these do not apply to the president himself.
LogDog75
(889 posts)I doubt either the Orange Turd or Beardo would have the know-how on how to do that so one of them probably directed someone in the VA to do it. Since that person is neither the president or vice-president the Hatch Act would apply.

(24,760 posts)How many Democrats can make how much noise, how clearly through how many distinct means, before people stop blaming them and start realizing this is a ground battle?! Just ranting in general - I'm sick of reading that the Democratic Party is a failure, has no voice or vision, lacks leadership or strong individuals, failed to nominate excellent candidates, etc... Wrong, wrong, wrong....
The question isn't what's wrong with the Democratic Party, it's what's wrong with the Republican Party - and how cravenly they've been able to dupe a large swath of voters into believing increasingly outlandish lies. (Visit the fox nooz site comments board some time for a whiff of evidence. It is astonishing.)
We all have work to do, person to person.

A shutdown was brewing, quite grim,
Yet Trump found a way to still spin
On tax-funded sites,
He pushed partisan fights,
Turning govt into ads just for him.
When Trump used the gov to mislead,
He dressed up his spin as pure creed.
With each doctored note,
He stuffed down our throat
State-run lies that reeked more of Xi's breed.
The Hatch Act was tossed in the flame,
As Trump played his partisan game.
With gov staff abused,
And the law disused,
He turned public trust into shame.
He twisted the law with a grin,
Let propaganda seep in.
On your dime and mine,
He crossed every line
If thats not a crime, its a sin.
They hijacked the names of the staff,
For partisan lies on their behalf.
With the Hatch Act defied,
And their voices misapplied,
Its fraud not just politics gaffe.
Their names were just stolen for show,
While Trump ran his gov like you know.
With each twisted claim,
He defiled their name
Thats not lawless? Then what is, bro?
