Trump administration cut $500 million in deliveries to food banks across the country.

FactPost @factpostnews
New reporting reveals the Trump administration cut $500 million in deliveries to food banks across the country.

Food banks were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 67 million eggs that never arrived and went to waste instead.

In the spring, the Trump administration abruptly cut $500 million in deliveries from a program that sends U.S.-produced meat, dairy, eggs and produce to food banks and other organizations across the country — about a quarter of the funding the program received in 2024. The items that were delivered through The Emergency Food Assistance Program were some of the healthiest, most expensive items that organizations distribute.

The cancellation of these deliveries comes at a critical time for food banks. Food insecurity is higher than at any time since the aftermath of the Great Recession, according to federal data, and many food banks are reporting higher need than they saw at the peak of the pandemic. Demand is only expected to increase; this summer, President Donald Trump signed into law the largest cut to food stamps in the program’s history.

ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture of each planned delivery in 2025, detailing the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached hungry people because of the administration’s cut.

The Emergency Food Assistance Program was created in 1983 to purchase farmers’ surplus food and distribute it to low-income people. The program’s budget is typically authorized every five years as part of the Farm Bill, but in 2018, the first Trump administration added funds to help farmers struggling under retaliatory tariffs the U.S. faced amid trade disputes. The additional, discretionary federal funds helped food banks serve more people; last fiscal year, they got nearly twice as much money from the fund as they did from their congressional allocation.

Now characterizing the additional funding as a “Biden-era slush fund,” the second Trump administration cut $500 million that had already been allocated. The government is still distributing food through other parts of the program, but food banks were caught off guard by the canceled deliveries because it’s rare for funding to be cut mid-year. Food bank managers, some with decades of experience, couldn’t recall a disruption like it. With the Farm Bill slated for renewal this fall, officials who run food banks worry that any additional cuts would cause them to have to scale back the number of people they serve.

I don't think we are going to get through this.
If I was younger & or if I had the income I would leave.
But....I'm stuck here. I will do what I can to fight this.
I fully expect to end my days broke & in prison or some god awful "Re-education/Concentration" camp. Maybe even deported.
My heart goes out to the youth of our country. They will have to try & make a life for themselves against terrible odds against them.

Unwashed Magats mistakenly believe that they pay taxes that support lazy liberals in big cities when the opposite is the truth.

The majority of SNAP benefits goes to rural America, unwashed Magats get the majority of welfare and they are about to learn about the leopards.

I believe that blue states will do work arounds to provide food for the hungry, I doubt that red states will be able to or want to.

except the master race is billionaires who want to kill unwashed Americans and replace them with AI.

When the Fed lowers interest rates again, at Krasnov's request, the dollar will crash some more making it more expensive to buy imported goods.

Meanwhile the billionaires will party in Crypto.

Pedo Trump and his gang of child humpers want to see Americans go hungry and die.

They are rubbing their hands in glee just waiting for Americans to start dying off en masse. It will give them such a thrill that they can recreate over and over again.

Think of it like a serial killer who gets his rocks off murdering animals, people and children. It's such a turn on for them to see Americans suffer and die. They don't care if it's their MAGAt buddies who voted them in or if it's their chosen scapegoat. All deaths of Americans give them a high.

People need to wake up and realize that this administration wants many to suffer and die. This is REAL folks. Just like the Nazi persecution of Jews in Germany in the 1930s.

The hearing will be led by Assistant Minority Leader Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) and Rep. Angie Craig (Minn.), the top Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee. It comes as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has pushed back against stand-alone bills as the GOP has failed to garner enough support to push a stopgap bill to reopen the government over the finish line.

“The works of the roots of the vines, of the trees, must be destroyed to keep up the price, and this is the saddest, bitterest thing of all. Carloads of oranges dumped on the ground. The people came for miles to take the fruit, but this could not be. How would they buy oranges at twenty cents a dozen if they could drive out and pick them up? And men with hoses squirt kerosene on the oranges, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the fruit. A million people hungry, needing the fruit- and kerosene sprayed over the golden mountains. And the smell of rot fills the country. Burn coffee for fuel in the ships. Burn corn to keep warm, it makes a hot fire. Dump potatoes in the rivers and place guards along the banks to keep the hungry people from fishing them out. Slaughter the pigs and bury them, and let the putrescence drip down into the earth.

There is a crime here that goes beyond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The fertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdy trunks, and the ripe fruit. And children dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate- died of malnutrition- because the food must rot, must be forced to rot. The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and the guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, but the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.”

Grocery stores; convenience stores, Walmart, Target, Mom and Pop stores. Yep most of them are Republicans, too.

We’re talking about $400/ month SNAP benefits on average in Texas. Folks are looking at their budgets asking where do we cut?

Yeah soooo flea markets, Goodwill stores, fast food (if anyone can afford it right now), Thanksgiving, and, yes, even Christmas will also be affected.

Food banks near me are ramping up and, sadly, turning away some people. A food drive for laid off Federal workers saw several cars turned away because the pantries were out of food.

My neighborhood is full of both active duty and retired military. There are lots of folks hurting here.

We loaded up our vehicle yesterday with canned fruit, vegetables, pasta meals, and hamburger helper type meals. Canned goods at our Walmart are on sale for $0.50/ can. $30 was quite a bit. The pantry folks were thrilled!

PS our Walmart has a Thanksgiving meal on sale for $37.12. This includes frozen Butterball turkey, stuffing mix, canned corn, canned green beans, canned pumpkin, frozen pie shells, evaporated milk, gravy packets, cream of mushroom soup and fried onions.

Better believe I jumped all over that, too!😬

Were there orders cancelled in which the food literally rotted and went to waste? What was the impact to family farms?

(I LOVE ProPublica but, for some reason, I'm having trouble reading through this article because of the graphic formatting. It's really distracting...lol.)
