I was dreading bad news out of Jamaica this morning, but it seems you've come through it OK. I read yesterday there had been a number of deaths.

Lots of them were about coming storms.
Who would have thought that one of the worst ever would end up here.

Because according to a friend of mine Sangster’s in Mobay has serious damage. Or she could leave from the smaller airport in St Mary - Ian Fleming. American Airlines operates there and they reopen tomorrow.
Norman Manley in Kingston will also reopen tomorrow.

Hurricanes can be a big pain

They're closer to the areas that will need the greatest recovery than Norman Manley.

There is damage. Norman Manley Airport in Kingston and Ian Fleming in St Mary reopen tomorrow.

I literally told him to watch this storm evolving two Fridays ago - made him bring it up on his phone when we ran into each other. He suffered from Beryl in Treasure Beach last year.

But it looks like a terrible mess in some places down there - I hope there will be plenty of help with recovery (but don't expect much from Trump).

Hurricane force winds extended "only" 30 miles out from the eye, so this was a pretty tight storm.

I think the worst of this will be in the interior where bridges are more likely to be out, delaying aid of any sort.

I'm just glad you cam through it OK. I just hope someone was smart enough to distribute water purification tablets inland before this monster hit.

I've been through enough hurricanes, though nothing nearly as intense as Melissa, to know they can cause a lot of long-lasting damage. I am hoping for the best for all Jamaicans.

Hoping for a quick recovery for Jamaica, but it will probably take longer than anyone wishes.

It looks like this one was every bit as bad as Gilbert.

So glad you made it through that terrible hurricane. I am sorry for the people who lost their lives and homes.

That the brunt of the storm missed you. Think of all the people who were worried about you, who were keeping you in the front of their thoughts all day as the storm bore down. I see that as the power of our collective love working to keep you safe. And I'm so glad it did.

Heartbroken about the damage. We here in the piedmont of South Carolina and western North Carolina got a taste of that last year. No electricity for 6 days. Devastation in western North Carolina.
