Spurious Analysis: The election was a referendum on Donald Trump
IDAHO'S RATHDRUM PRAIRIE (Spurious Analysis Service) -- Yesterday we had one of those "off year elections" that, depending on the state you live in, either have good turnout because the governor's race is on the ballot, or that no one shows up for because the only thing on the ballot is a sewer bond.
Just so ya know, the guy who started the "Dummies" book series just got elected mayor of Coeur d'Alene. Compared to most Republicans he's alright.
So...in the states where actual candidates were on the ballot as opposed to just admin crap, the Democrats essentially ran the table. We took the Virginia governor's race. We passed a California redistricting plan that's going to negate any effort in Texas to tip the balance of power in the House. In New York City, we elected a mayor named Zohran Mamdani who's supposedly a full-blown Goddamn Communist but is to the right of Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was definitely not a Goddamn Communist. The only Republicans who won their elections last night were either running unopposed or against other Republicans. For instance, in the aforementioned Idaho mayoral race all four candidates were Republicans.
The GOP, before the election, claimed this would be a referendum on the president. And, so it was. It was the sound of the great masses of American might and power rising up as one, standing tall before the man, and stating, with a clear and unwavering voice...
"Dude, you fucking suck."
The year since Trump got elected has been the makings of a dystopian hellscape. There's a phrase people around here like that I'm not sure is entirely accurate: "Everything Trump touches dies." After this year it seems like it should be "is killed by him." He's wreaked so much havoc on the United States and the world it's going to take at least 40 years with the Democrats in complete control of the government to even think about reversing it. And quite frankly, some of the things Trump has done - tearing one end off the White House with a steam shovel immediately comes to mind - can't be reversed at all.
If the 2026 election shows any sign of following in the footsteps of the 2025 one, the Republicans might want to buy a couple barrels of fresh motor oil. This will save Trump the pain of being boiled in oil the government bought out of a quick-lube place's waste tank. Fear not, the cheap stuff works perfectly well for this task.
