NJ-11: Grayzel (D), Croft (D), Hathaway (R) confirm they're in for special election to succeed Sherrill
The race to succeed Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill in New Jerseys 11th congressional district is in full swing, with three candidates who had announced campaigns before Sherrills gubernatorial rout saying today that theyre officially in for the as-yet-unscheduled special election.
Morris Township Committeeman and former Mayor Jeff Grayzel, a Democrat, began making moves towards a campaign earlier this year, and confirmed in June that hed run if Sherrill won the governors race. Though his campaign remained hypothetical until today, that didnt stop him from building up a substantial campaign warchest: hes raised $339,000 thus far, $100,000 of which came from himself.......
Another Democratic 11th district candidate, Obama administration alum and former clean energy nonprofit leader Cammie Croft, also said that shes 100% in now that Sherrill has won. Like Grayzel, Croft provisionally entered the race several months ago, and quickly raised $188,000 for her effort.
I couldnt be prouder to call Mikie Sherrill my Governor-elect, Croft said. Shes proven that when Democrats organize around real issues, talk to people about their lives, and lead with integrity, we win. And last night, New Jersey showed what it looks like when we do just that.
