I'm on the email lists of a number of solid progressive organizations; I'm also on the email lists of my Senators and congresscritters. When they send surveys, I participate. And when they ask me to sign petitions, I'm there. But after I answer/sign it continues to a request for donation. I get it, causes and campaigns cost money. Problem is, even before my SNAP benefits disappeared I didn't have the money to send. Question: Since I can't donate, do my survey answers still count, is my signature still added to petitions?

(128,249 posts)Those solicited petitions and surveys are otherwise worthless. Don't bother with them. If you can afford to donate money to a cause you support, do it; but not on account of those petitions and surveys. I never answer them any more because all they ever did was get me on more email lists asking for money.

(4,615 posts)very small amount which I donate monthly.
I get about two dozen surveys, petitions, and appeals for money a day in my email. It's down from three times that because I have gone through trying to unsubscribe from almost everything. I get a half dozen texts a day and about the same number of phone calls. I have no idea how many calls are political because I have left my voicemail full for months.
I sign about a half dozen petitions a day, it seems many are for the same causes by the same groups. I really believe that they just want money and emails of people who have their petitions forwarded to them.
But I get an email or two a day from "my" senators, house rep, or governor about some petition or the other
I NEVER give a penny to those groups sending me the emails.
So, yes, at least some of those groups send your name as a signatory to their petition to whichever politician.
