I prefer raspberry or black berry pie.
Republicans are falling all over themselves to hype Trump for bringing prices down because the Walmart Thanksgiving basket is cheaper this year, but...
It is a different basket. It has fewer items, different items, and different brands.
For example, last year had a premade pie. No pie this year. No muffin mix this year. No marshmallows, raw onions, or whipped topping. And instead of last year's cranberry sauce, just cranberries.
So, yes, when you sell fewer items, it costs less, but that doesn't mean life has become any more affordable.
The kicker is that they're talking about how cheap the turkey is this year, but it was actually cheaper last year.
Here are the 2024 and 2025 lists:

(10,915 posts)This is just more classic GOP misdirection and bullshit.
Stop playing ball with them and their money-whoring members of the press that feed their narratives for "access".
Things overall are bad because not only are prices higher and remaining that way FOREVER now (face it the only way to meaningfully reduce prices is a deflationary economy - a depression; and no one is going to sign up for advocating that out loud - even if the GOP would love to see anything that hurts the poor and leaves their bosses' tax rates low).
Rent and mortgages? Don't ask...
Food and medicine? Don't tell...
A nonsensical, cheap bundle from Wal-Mart's slave masters? Oh my god, make it a front page above the fold lead story for a week!!!!!

(2,250 posts)We were stunned last night at Costco to discover that the 2 * 6 pack of bagels (mix and match) has gone up from $5.99 to $7.99 in a span of no more than 6-8 months (the last time we bought them).
It does not appear that anything is cheaper than it was last Thanksgiving (and nothing was 'cheap' then either) to us. Granted this is Costco not Walmart, but we also shop at Safeway, and nothing has gotten cheaper there in the last 12 months either.

(14,845 posts)The GOP can't hide the fact that for most people who experience "two days before payday" emergency family shopping for staples like Ramen packs (not the cups) bag of beans, blue lable soup cans and canned veggies have over doubled in price. In just 8 months...
4 for $1 Ramen is around 2 for $1. 1 lb of dried beans, noodles, or rice for $1 is now $2 or more a pound.
Cans (or box/bags) of soup, "pasta/rice meals " or veggies that are typically found between 75 cents a unit to $1.25 are now $1 to $3 a unit.
Cheap frozen bags of veggies? $2 minimum for enough for 3 servings; at dollar stores, you might find small 6 to 8 oz serving packs for $1 - enough for maybe one adult or two small kids.
A 20 oz loaf of generic wheat bread is $2.50, when it used to be $1.50.
Not to mention "fresh -ish" produce and cheap meats and dairy are up by 1/3rd.
Go into a dollar store with $4 or $5 in couch change or recycling collection just to keep you going before the SNAP or Paycheck gets to your account, and you're going to be lucky to come out with a jerky stick or slim Jim, a 6 oz can of soup or veggies, and an 8 oz Sunny Delight juice bottle.
That's the reality to the working poor.

(1,747 posts)get THAT to the DNC and let them distribute it in ALL of their messaging nationally. Personally, I don't think it's all the Orange shitter's fault....nor his fellow Repukes. BUT, we are where we are and they are DROWNING in their own BS...especially Shitler. He can't help but double and triple down daily and he is absolutely on the RUN at this point and I love it for obvious reasons.
Let me say this folks....Aldi is saving our family's butt. Sure, it's lots of generic stuff but who cares? Their chicken/pork/fish are all GOOD quality and very affordable and we've stopped buying beef. I hardly miss it....just too expensive. The biggest grocery store in our region (West Michigan) is Meijer and we were up to about $260 for a family of three per week. Now with Aldi we average about $175 and when our son moves out in a few months (he has his first job and thankfully is doing well) our bill will plunge cuz he eats like a tank, bless his heart.

And they've driven the price you pay for outright corruption against the American people to zero.
It's actually
that they would tout this Walmart promotion as some kind of win for American consumers.
As stupid as it seems MAGAs are, they know the difference between their bank balance and what they are able to put on their table for dinner. And it is increasingly clear that the dopamine flood they got from seeing brown people frog-marched off to El Salvador is wearing off--leaving them to look around and realize that Biden is gone and "day one" has passed but food is still really expensive.
You can only imagine how hard that hits small farmers on the brink of bankruptcy because of tariffs and the deportation of so much of their labor. If only I could muster some sympathy for any of them that voted for all of this....

(2,855 posts)The retail price of turkeys is a priced based on proprietary algorithms of the grocers. Using the price of turkeys in November doesn't reflect any sort of reality of the affordability of groceries.
